Re: Incorrectly logging instrument time
Oh yeah? Can you explain how you shoot an ILS VFR? Cancelling and doing the visual is routine in GA in VMC. My point is doing it wrong overstates experience IMO At most major airports approach isn't going to let you cancel and go visual. So answer the question, if you shoot an ILS in VMC conditions...

Just make sure they go hit the other side too before you leave, it’ll at least be symmetrical that way. Less drag

Hey so I currently have about 500 hours as an fo on an atr and am presented with an opportunity for left seat on a king air 300. I know the direct requirements from the website but I know there’s some room for change within them. Could I get some advice if I should take the kind air job or continue...

Unless you’re close to 4500-5000 hours TT it’s probably be faster for you to join as an FO and get the 500 on type to upgrade provided you already have 1500-2000 hours TT.

That was as of July 2023. Not sure if they’re still doing it. Q400 only. Other dash 8 models aren’t eligible

Accruing YOS means Jack shit. Point is you are not getting paid what you are rightfully entitled to. They are getting paid E2 rates in the d-tip: 1. From October 2023 until Dec 2024 Porter Airlines will guarantee 3 cumulative Transition positions per class for DHC8-400 Captains to Transition to the...

Talking out of the wrong end of your digestive system…. An 195-E2 First Officer may be upgraded to fill a 195-E2 Captain vacancy if they are the most senior applicant for the available position. If the position is awarded to an upgrading E2 FO out of seniority order for fleet or training needs, AND...

Re: New Pay Increase for DH4 Captains
Currently as it stands-flow limited to 3 a month cumulative from Q to E2 for both CAs and now FOs. Earlier in the year a number of junior FOs were able to transfer as they lifted fleet lock. Some Q CAs have bid over as FOs and have been restricted from flowing over as this is now counted under the ...

Re: Example Schedule (again)
I'm on the Dash. There's been a large amount of captains leaving, creating a snowball effect. QOL drops, so people leave, people leave, so QOL drops. As a group we've asked for improvements to the situation, but were met with half-assed and frankly insulting solutions. I joined Porter because of th...

Re: Flair in hot water with the CRA
Odd. When I imported my GA aircraft, I got pulled aside and grilled by the CBSA for 10 minutes on the price I paid and the duty owing. That aircraft wasn't leaving until the taxes were paid on import. How are corporations like this allowed to import these assets, and get away with running on govern...

Re: Being a Proficient Pilot
It’s about being proficient not about proving anything. Yeah sure flying from ToD to ground may be excessive depending on where you’re going but you can take the autopilot off at some point in between. A happy medium. Plus if you practice you won’t embarrass yourself 😉. Transport Canada is a little...

The food you packed is also perishable, eat it on descent with the autopilot on, before customs confiscates your meals. Yes this is picking battles; I don’t need my fellow pilot who shares a very small volumetric cubic space with me for hours to “prove his flying skills” from TOD to the runway. You...

And severely increase the work load for the other pilot…… Pick your battles I guess? You don’t have to do it going into every single airport. Hand flying is a perishable skill. The food you packed is also perishable, eat it on descent with the autopilot on, before customs confiscates your meals. Ye...

Re: MMG or Higher per hour pay?
What is more advantageous? $100 with 75 MMG or $88.24 with 85 MMG Both give the same monthly income. So why would someone pick one over the other? The only thing I can think of is the higher pay per hour is better if you pickup more flying putting you into overtime. With 0 open flying and just doin...

Re: Q400 FO to Captain Upgrade timeline
Why are the YTZ FOs not flying? Is there too Many FO and not enough DH8 captains ? FOs are easy to find. CAs are harder to find because anyone who's competitive for DEC Dash can also just go to E2 land. The Dash CA spot has become really unattractive and so even the pipeline of upgrades the company...

Hello, What is the best way to get based at YOW? I'm new, I appropriate your insight very much. I'm just about ready to get my first pilot job. Not quite at 500 hours yet. My biggest goal starting out would be to get base at YOW. Porter is the only company with a base there that I can see. FO/CA, Q...

Re: Being a Proficient Pilot
Good day, For all of you airline pilots out there, I was wondering what you do to stay proficient and to try and improve/be on top of your game. I’m about to start flying at a 705 and just looking to set myself up for success as someone with relatively low experience. Some ideas I have are: - Const...

Re: Being a Proficient Pilot
Don’t forget to read through the AIM occasionally, there is a lot of pertinent information that gets rusty over the years. I personally find reading through Section VII of the cars with a focus on 705 is helpful. Take some time once you’re comfortable with the aircraft and “meat and potatoes” manua...
