I wish I could get some Standard Practices and Avionics practice exams.
Studying like crazy, but all the practice exams seem to be CARS only.

Re: Provincial Airline, St-John
I'm in the mod division now and there is PLENTY of work there, with more on the way. My logbook is getting filled quite fast and I still have another 2.5 years before I can write my CARS exam. It's probably one of the best places to get your hands on experience dealing with harness making, soldering...

Re: what about avionics E and standard practise for E exams?
I'm in the same boat. Because I had trained through the Canadian Military system, I have to write the Standard Practices, Avionics and CARS exams.
There seems to be plenty of practice exams and material for the CARS exam, but I've been able to find nothing on the other two.

Re: Another apprenitce looking for work
I'm not sure who you got laid off from, but Air Canada will NOT leave me alone about going to work for them in Edmonton or Winnipeg. Now, I've not worked for them before. I hear some good stuff and a bucketload of bad stuff, but it's all second and third hand information, so take it for what it's wo...

Re: Practice exams/aid info for TC exams
Thanks folks, I'll give these a whirl. I'm trying to get the Standard Practices and the Avionics exams out of the way, so I can concentrate on the CARS exam. I do have the CARS for the AME book (have it loaned out to a friend at the moment), but I can't write CARS for another 2 years, 9 months. If t...

There is no one on here that has had to write these? I'm studying the books right now, but any type of assitance is definately welcome.

Re: Contractors Association
CAMC hasn't really done anything for me. :( I find the advice offered is convoluted at best, and they are simply not respected in aviation circles. I would LOVE for someone to show me any different, if nothing else than to show me that I didn't waste my $87. What would you like CAMC to do for you? ...

Practice exams/aid info for TC exams
Howdy folks Was just curious if there was a resource out there that had either helpful info and/or practice exams for the Standard Practices and Avionics Transport Canada exams? I have to write those two, then will be writing my CARS in approximately 2 years, 7 months as I am going for my E License....

Re: Avionics Toolkit - Seeking Advice
Wow! This thread is still going. It's good stuff, not only for me but any newbies coming into the field. I'm just waiting on the last of my tools to come in. For my meter I ended up going with a Fluke 87-5 kit that was on sale in New York. Talk about FAST shipping and even with GST and shipping, it ...

Re: Avionics Toolkit - Seeking Advice
I figure the most important tool for an Avionics guy is the gray matter between their ears. Work on improving that stuff everyday and you'll find you won't need a lot of tools. Aye, hehe, that part is a never ending challenge. ;) I'm only an apprentice in Avionics, but with 14 years in the Army, yo...

Re: Avionics Toolkit - Seeking Advice
I'm an AME-E, I can help you to get started. Get the Snap on screwdriver as mentioned before first off - 12pt deep and shallow 1/4" sockets (3/16 to 1/2").........Craftsman make fine ones. - You may need to get Snap on for these: 1/8" deep & 5/32" deep sockets. You'll find they are used quite often...

Avionics Toolkit - Seeking Advice
Howdy folks I'm in the process of building my tool kit and would like some advice on what to get and where to get it. I'm in St. John's, NL. Keep in mind that there is no Snap On dealer here and the MAC tools dealer doesn't service the airport apparently (one is one the way in the new year so I'm to...

Re: AME qualifications credited towards another trade?
It depends I think. I know a lot of the Avionics training in the military can be transferred over to Electronics Engineering, but that's mainly due to the POET (Performance Oriented Electronics Training) that we do. If I were you, I'd call up your college, get a transcript and then ask for the credi...

I'm not worried too much about places like that. Been to Afghanistan, so I have an idea of when to keep my head down. I just REALLY want to get started and get some more time under my belt.

Awesome, thank you! Should give me a few leads to some potential apprentice employment. Almost 6 months down, just 3.5 more years to go so I can write my CARS! :p

I know First Air does rotational shifts for its crews in Iqualuit. I was wondering what other companies did such work?

Military Avionics Apprentice seeking help and advice
Good Day I've just recently completed my Apprentice training and am currently completing some OJT with a civilian company on the S-92, but will be finished the 3rd of February and will be looking for work as an apprentice. Re: Considering AME
Ugh, did I.T. for 16 years and if you think the AME is a thankless job, just try and be an IT tech. I'm currently working on coverting from a Military Avionics tech to an AME-E apprentice (just finished my apprentice schooling just August past) and I find you get a LOT more respect than I ever did a...
