Re: Mid-career switch to aviation — looking for real-world advice
I wouldn't normally recommend it but given your age and life-experience, maybe you'd consider one of the Cygnet cadet programs. ab-initio training with a guaranteed right seat at jazz or porter (depending on the program you're enrolled in). Because of your age and any family commitments you may have...

Re: Free contract opportunities
Looks like a solid platform, I signed up myself. Only issue I have is with the document upload. Not saying I don't trust you.. but it is asking for a lot to have your clients upload these sensitive documents to your portal. Sending them directly to prospective companies (if they ask for them) should...

Re: Encore hiring 2026
Curious…. Are people still applying here thinking they will get a west jet spot eventually? Or are people using this place as a get your heavy turboprop hours and go? Late to the party but the plan has always been to upgrade at some point and stay on for a couple years as encore CA before flowing t...

Re: Encore hiring 2026
Anyone else showing “in progress” at the moment and/or know what it means? Curious, has the status changed from initial application? In progress likely means being reviewed, could also mean they are preparing to offer you an interview but it is all relative to what the status was before this. If yo...

Encore hiring 2026
Hey all, Has anyone in the past month heard back from Encore? Referencing their FO ad posted back in Sep 2025. Trying to figure out if December is a quiet month for hearing back or if it's just me :smt040. Also if you were rejected how soon after you apply does this company typically let you know? C...

Re: Hiring demand vs supply?
Nobody I know at AC has heard this, and wouldn't it make sense to take the captians instead? Not necessarily. Aren't jazz and encore etc struggling to have enough captains, but generally have plenty of FO. And lots of those FO don't have the requirements to upgrade? So moving some stuck FO into mai...
Re: WJ Hiring
Hate to tell you this, but Westjet is likely going to hire much less pilots than originally planned. This is due to a reversal in the plan to force all of the age 65+ pilots out. The company has been ordered to keep them rostered until a ruling can be given next year some time. Sounds like the hiri...

Re: Multi IFR rating (Starting out on the single)
You could just do a multi-engine rating and then do your IFR in a single/Red Bird SIM. When you do a PPC in a twin-engine aircraft, your Instrument rating then becomes a mult-IFR! Why would a company hire someone in this predicament as opposed to the countless amount of actual multi-IFR rated pilot...

Where did the resume redux post go?
As title say, why was the resume redux post removed? It had some hugely valuable information there and was overall super helpful. I went to look for it the other day and, to my surprise, it seemed to have been removed. Any mods on here that can shed light on its removal (and maybe bring it back?) Ch...

MPL nonsense
Hey all, Was scrolling social media and saw a post from one of these TUI cadet schemes showcasing their recent cadet MPL grads. Been a licenced pilot for many years however I am unsure how I never really stumbled upon this MPL bull**** until now but... wtf? What are they smoking over in EU and Asia?...

Re: How competitive is 750+ Total Time?
Some great responses, thank you everyone. You guys are definitely right - I should be more careful with the words I use. It definitely does seem like I alluded that instructing was worse than "operational experience" even though that was not at all the goal. I personally don't believe that and I gue...

Re: How competitive is 750+ Total Time?
Will the answer to this question change what you are planning on doing? If so, what do you actually want to know? As written, the question is very broad and the answers will likely be nothing more than speculation. Competitive or not, you'll still want to get more hours and experience if you're wor...

How competitive is 750+ Total Time?
Good day all,
In a market of such uncertainty, I was wondering just how competitive an application with 750+ TT, 500+ PIC, actual operational experience and non-instructing time is with regards to 703/704/705 job applications.
Where does that put me exactly with the winter coming?
Cheers

Ah yes, February 2020, what a great time to be planning for the future. And… Where are you at now brother? :) TPC I didn’t fly for a couple years and did office work during COVID, been on floats since, and now the industry sucks and I’m studying for multi-IFR. Should’ve done it sooner, but with a y...

Re: Did anyone used Harv's air instructor ground school?
Isn't the point of the ground school hours to have you demonstrate how you would teach PGIs etc? Isn't most of that time spent one on one with your instructor-instructor? Yeah exactly this. For my rating I went through every single PGI, presenting each one during ground sessions with my class 1. Ne...

Re: What was your hardest and easiest licence/rating?
The CPEAR, hardest thing ever. Even though I never finished the CPL in Canada. In terms of actual flying - the Power off 180 in the States. It's by far harder than in Canada as you only get +100/-0, and there is no scoring, it's either a pass or a fail, and I had nearly 35 kts HW, and my C172 went ...

What was your hardest and easiest licence/rating?
I'll go first - Hardest was definitely my class 4. Just so much prep going into making all the PGI's as well as trying to teach and demonstrate every exercise to CPL standards... all from the right seat now. Though flight test was surprisingly a breeze. Easiest was probably my group 1. Yeah there wa...

Graduated from another post-secondary institution with a similar multi-year aviation program. I really recommend trying to find a way to fund your training at an accelerated one year program at your local flight school via either working and saving up or taking out a loan. The faster you enter the i...

Re: Should I even get the instructor rating?
I do equate them. Everything matters towards a positive first impression. The difference is: The OP is A) looking for advice and more importantly B) looking for a job. I have no need of either, but I did offer some advice. Which was rejected, which is the listeners choice. Humility is sorely lackin...
