Re: Braces/Invisiline Coverage

I'm not at an airline, but the charter company I work for does dental through Quikcard. They are covering half of my son's dental expander. The orthodontist doesn't do direct billing, so I have it set up to do payments over a year on the 15th of the month and scan/send a copy of the receipt. Usually...

Re: is bad QOL a guarantee?

JeppsOnFire made one of the best employment-related posts I've seen on this site in years. There are so many facets to this career that can be enjoyed as a career with good QOL. The key is to hopefully find what you like, find a good company that does it, and enjoy it, regardless of it being 604,702...

Re: Allergies and class 1

If it is an allergy issue for yourself, I have a class 1 medical and am allergic to a long and distinguished list of environemntal substances, some foods and am currently taking allergy shots. Effectively, any grasses, furs, pollen, some weeds and bunch others I cannot remember as well as dairy, egg...

Dr. Gault at the L.A. Medical Clinic in Leduc does aviation medicals. I don't recall his rates, however.

Re: Northwestern Air Lease

I'm sorry this took so long, I was busy yesterday and couldn't get to type this out. The Cuban is correct, they try to promote from within as much as possible. Direct Entry Captain and FO isn't very common, but it does happen. I won't go into the specific pay, as that's up to them to publish, but it...

Re: Northwestern Air Lease

A couple of years ago, I posted a longer answer to your questions. The thread was deleted due to the shenanigans of another ex-employee. Perhaps the mods are able to re-post what I wrote. If my children allow me the time later on, I'll type out another reply. I can quickly say that, overall, I very ...

Re: ISP in Northwest Territories

It would seem that you're one of the new guys coming up, you've picked an awesome time of year to head up here. NorthwesTel is the only company in Fort Smith to offer internet. For our internet and cable we're paying $170/month total. We have digital cable tv/pvr with a higher-end package and around...

Re: Back home every night?

Northwestern Air Lease. I've been here almost a year and spent 3 nights away from home. One due to weather, One for my medical and the other was a charter booked with plenty of notice.

Re: Do you know these people/planes?

C-GZGO is North-Wright's Islander, I had the pleasure of putting a hundred hours on that plane and loved every one of them. It is as mentioned in Nahanni Air colours from before Warren bought it. I vaguely remember being told that ZGO has spent most of it's life north of 60. Looking at the airstrip,...

Re: Favourite Air show

My parents used to pack us up and take us to the London Air Show as well, along with Sarnia. It was always a great time, my parents had to pretty much drag me out of there. I went on a road trip with my Cousin and Grandfather to Oshkosh in '93 (ish) and I'm pretty sure if I looked hard enough at my ...

Re: Bose X vs. Lightspeed Zulu vs. David Clark X11

I bought my Zulu in March and love it. I've used it on C172/206/207/208/BN2A and BE99. The Islander actually became relatively quiet, as did the 99. In the Caravan I'm driving now, it's awesome. The Piston Cessnas were also a marked improvement compared to the passive DC's I had before. I have not t...

The best I've had was a Medium-Rare Prime Rib at 360 Restaurant on the CN Tower. It was also the most expensive meal I've ever had, but worth every penny.

Re: Lightspeed Zulu vs Bose Headset X

As Swordfish said, thanks for the help! The research I've done has also pointed me towards the Telex 50D, but I could not find much regarding the Zulu and it's longevity. I tried on the Bose X, and in a BE-99A it was a marked difference over my DC H10-13.4's, but it didn't do a very good job of bloc...

Re: Lightspeed Zulu vs Bose Headset X

I'm in the market for a new headset, and have been looking at the Lightspeed Zulu and the Telex 50D. It's my understanding that the Telex has some lasting quality, but I was wondering how the Zulu has been holding out since last year's posts? In particular, north of 60, where I do 99% of my flying.

I think it's the beat that makes it so addictive ;). My girlfriend thought it was pretty good though .... maybe I should move south of 60 and take her to Hooters .... for the wings. :D

Re: avcanada book club?

I'll add a Third recommend for Skunk Works, it's a very interesting read. Also I would suggest "Ghosts of Targets Past" by Philip Grey, his personal accounts from flying Lancasters during WWII from initial training to the end of the war. Another good WWII book would be "Duel of Eagles" by Peter Town...
