Re: RAIM and KLN 90B's lately

Aft CofG I think this is the one you are looking for(if it attached properly). Our fleet is KLN-90 equipped and we have had numerous failures of RAIM including full navigation loss on approaches when the prediction said no problem, luckily on overlays only so far. Also had failures on the RNAV STARs...

Re: Cador for this?

No Cat. You have it all wrong. Enforcement, under the new SMS, is self imposed. You are to report what you did wrong, how you are not going to it wrong again, and when you plan not to do it again by and TC will look at it and say yes that looks like it is in the spirit of SMS or not. If you want to talk to a couple of companies currently using or testing different systems try Vancouver Island Air and Harbour Air. Both are using the tracking systems but one is using the sattelite based comms and the other the HF based comms.

Hope this helps.

Widow, Just thinking if you want to try something for validation of your poll try comparing apples to apples (albeit Granny Smith to Macintosh - definate difference but same idea). I would be interested to see how people rate police officers, especially traffic cops and the front liners who have to ...

"I don't understand (and have never understood) why ELT's are still operating in the MHz frequency range, which requires line-of-sight for transmission/detection. As noted above, it seems like so often ELTs are rendered useless when the antenna shears off during the crash. Would it be possible to d...

Boats use something very similar to the ELT. It is the Electronic Position Indicating Radio Beacon. Some are more advanced than aviation as they have a GPS receiver built in to the system that once activated will transmit the lat/long of the beacon along with the standard tones of the ELT on 121.5 a...
