Re: schedules for new hires

Blue Water - there's always the WJ option too. I'm sure you'll have a challenge with the commute for the first year or two, but it does get better. If living it YWG is what you want to do, then you'll find a way to make it work. Might take some effort. On a side note, if you can get an RP position, ...

Re: Repeal of Mandatory Retirement Bill Passes Second Readin

Rockie. I'll go back to my original post on this subject, where I pointed out the fact that bil c-481 supposedly makes exceptions for national defence, as well as 'trans provincial and international transportation activities'. This is no where near as cut and dry as you'd like it to be (thankfully)....

Re: Repeal of Mandatory Retirement Bill Passes Second Readin

Rockie - You'll recall that the membership overwhelmingly voted in favour of defending our mandatory retirement policy. This is why ACPA is defending it so vehemently. Even if you don't understand it, there is huge support for defending it, so defend it we shall. I may be idealistic here, but I stil...

Re: Repeal of Mandatory Retirement Bill Passes Second Readin

Understated - wow, for all of your implied wisdom on the ways of the world, you're surprisingly obtuse. Metaphors about playground bullies abound in my head when I read that kind of propaganda, but this kind of tone is typical on this subject, so it's far from surprising. Regardless of what you thin...

Re: Repeal of Mandatory Retirement Bill Passes Second Readin

The first speaker in the video from page 1 of this thread said something interesting. To the effect that some circumstances in the area of national defense and 'international transportation activities' warrant a mandatory retirement policy. If you wish to see for yourself, fast forward to 4:58 into ...

Re: Interviews

BTD - Oh no sweat man, the tone was all good! Was only suggesting that exhausting is often the norm in aviation. Granted, it's a very different type of exhausting on the emj, and another type all together on the 767. It may sound strange, but I think sitting still for too long is one of the most tir...

Re: Interviews

HavaJava - spot on assessment! Sorry to hear about your bid, I'll have a caparina for you next time I'm in Sao Paulo :) Groundtoflightdeck - new hires can bid within their new hire class, based on the number they drew out of the hat. So some will possibly have the option to choose between EMJ and RP...

Re: Interviews

Have been both RP on the '67 and FO on the EMJ. The EMJ will get you a lot of jet take offs and landings, but the pairings are somewhat rigorous (3-4 legs/day are common). Most of the capts are great people to work with, but the layovers are usually short, so most of the socializing you'll do will b...

Re: "Ground to flightdeck..."

Hey monkey - great post.. The more communication we have between our respective groups, the better. I'll do my best to answer your questions, but keep in mind, I'm a former emj fo, turned 767 rp, so my answers will be limited to sop knowlege/real world observations. In other words, I'm rarely the gu...

Re: ATR 42 Down in Venezuela

Good call! This is definitely not an ATR-42 - the tailplane is totally different (the vert stab extends above the horizontal stab on the ATR, it does not on the dash 7/8).

Looks like sloppy reporting!

June eqpt bid - no hiring.

The title says it all. Wish it was better news. Sounds like more metal is still just a pipe dream, and mgmt is expecting us to gobble up the unassigned flying through makeup/drafting, so no hiring for now. IMHO, we're running pretty thin as far as staffing levels go.. maybe they're waiting to get ne...

Re: Rumors of AC hiring soon, any truth?

Rockie: Thanks for enlightening us with your knowledge of geopolitics, but you missed my point. If I may take the liberty to summarize your attitude, you're trying to vilify the majority of AC pilots (who strongly disagree with the abolition of mandatory retirement), simply because it was recently d...

Re: Rumors of AC hiring soon, any truth?

Rockie: I am in awe of your ability to cook up a fresh batch of BS, garnish it with a false sense of principle, and serve as gourmet 'righteousness'. I don't care if you call it a prairie oyster, it's still a bull's testicle - catch my drift? You are in serious denial if you think that this initiati...

Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament

Hear hear tony and 600. Hate to break it to you Rockie, but us 'lazy', 'apathetic' jr. guys who don't give a damn about the pension ARE YOU. We are, as a whole, what you were when you were starting out at AC. You could transplant us into what was then your job, and we would do just fine. And like yo...

Re: Rumors of AC hiring soon, any truth?

It's fun to play the rumour game when the news is good. I'll throw my hat in the ring with this tidbit: 'Just did my line check before Xmas, and the checker was telling me that the buzz around the office is hiring in fall of 2010. I know it's still heresay, but it's a good source at least. That bein...
