Re: Dornier on floats
FIFT operated a Dornier as a Bird dog for the Mars for 1 season. It was not well received as it was not fast enough as well as the visibility down was not great for the pilot. The airplane was sold and ended up in the States. Air Nootka in Gold River operated one as well for a short while it ended u...

Re: Noorduyn Norseman
I just spent the summer flying a Norseman and I must say it was one of the best float seasons I have ever had. It was HOT HEAVY HARD WORK , it was also FREEZING COLD ICEBREAKING in the fall , I must say the work is old school bush flying and would not trade any of the work for flying any of the newe...

Re: Petition To Save The Mars.
Or instead of one 1600 gal load every say 8 minutes from one 415 you get a 700 gal load every 2 minutes from 4 Fireboss's. The more tools in your toolbox the better
I am thinking that you must be using US gallons,

Re: Petition To Save The Mars.
BPF The Mars intended use as far as I know is direct attack on fire nothing else. It has a great record of doing just that. It has been doing so for many years It does have some operational limitations as do the Ducks ,580's, And especially the wonderful Fireboss with its limited very limited capaci...

i HAVE CONSIDERABLE EXPERIENCE IN THE MARS . I believe that there is many ways that this plane can be used effectively and efficiently and financially . If you really look closely at how the smaller SEATS are being used they are not delivering proper sized loads and that is expensive.

Re: Not sure what to do...
Don't let them tell you that you can't fly with Colour Blindness . I have been flying Commercially for 40 years now Day VFR is a great way to make a living. On the plus side you are home at night or at the very least on the ground and are on call only during the day and that means you have all night...

We in the front of the Big Red Fire Truck also have a huge respect for the night crew it is no easy task. It is a huge undertaking to keep this machine flying.

Re: Mighty Planes - discovery Channel Sunday night
I suppose the technology of these "mighty planes" is not what is being highlighted, given that the Orbis DC-10 is 41 years old, and the Martin Mars is 67 years old. Of course the "mighty ships" S.S. Normandie and even the Cunard liner Queen Elizabeth II interest is more nostalgia than anything else....

Re: Corporate Pilot "Duties"
I took a "Corporate" job and it has been great it does have its moments though. But since I have been involved they have given me the opportunity to fly many great airplanes . From single engine Cessna's both wheels, floats , amphibs to Turbine wheels, floats and amphibs and twins turbine and piston...
