Re: Fly a JET! Make less than a King Air captain!

I see. Well, I suppose it's a good thing that there are some operators out there that recognize that in order to attract and retain crews, they have to pay more (even though it turns out that in this example, they don't actually pay more) based on the particular brand of hell they plan to impose on ...

Re: Fly a JET! Make less than a King Air captain!

Won't somebody please post which King Air operators' pay scales start at $135k? I've signed a blank cheque for my bond, I just need to know who to make it out to.

I'd love to hear which King Air operators are offering $135k at the bottom end of their pay scale.

Re: Attn recruiters: this is how to write a job ad

Yeah we'll suck up flat pay while we have to. Then we'll be the ones making 200+ and 300+ at some point with the new contract. Fair enough. You have to look out for number one, and I don't begrudge anyone wanting to make that trade off. For most pilots, it's the premier job in Canada. But because o...

Sounds like some happy float pilot is securing a really good job while you miserable nerds nitpick for no reason.

Enjoy your flat pay.

Re: Calm Air Pay

The silence and lack of details around what was voted on is not reassuring. Huge opportunity missed for the pilot industry. I just picture Manager John Schneider looking at the lineup in the dugout. Flair. Porter. Sunwing. Calm Air. Keewatin. Pasco. AirSprint. All walked up and batted. Hit singles ...

Re: Aerial firefighting for foreigners

As mentioned above, step 1 is the legal right to work here. As for the aviation specific parts, aerial firefighting will require a few thousand hours and all of the same qualifications and experience that any other flying job would, and then some. Any "normal" experience (2 crew, SOPs, multi-engine ...

Re: A read for all negotiating pilots - Even the Meter Reader job, which requires no education makes $70k a year!

Top lawyers, doctors and engineers can command higher wages based on merit because they can bring added value to their customers, clients, employers, etc. A good lawyer can save their client money that a mediocre lawyer could not. A good doctor or surgeon can improve a person's quality of life to a ...

Re: A read for all negotiating pilots - Even the Meter Reader job, which requires no education makes $70k a year!

In the vast majority of flying jobs, merit is unfortunately not a reasonable basis on which to demand a higher wage for the simple reason that there is no added value to the company if a pilot far exceeds the standard, versus one who only meets it. Automation and standardization have made it so that...

Re: A read for all negotiating pilots - Even the Meter Reader job, which requires no education makes $70k a year!

I hesitate to post this, as I don't see the relevance of doctors' wages in a discussion about pilots' wages, as though doctors and pilots are competing for limited pieces of the same pie or their respective values to society are somehow importantly and inextricably linked. I don't see either as bein...

Re: A read for all negotiating pilots - Even the Meter Reader job, which requires no education makes $70k a year!

That a 250 hour new FO should be paid more than a doctor with a pile of degrees and years in Med school. It's offensive. I don't care if those exact words were used, the attitude comes across loud and clear. MOD's -- I suggest these employment compensation threads be moved where they belong -- to t...

Simpson Air has been hiring female pilots with great success long before it scored brownie points with the social justice warrior types.

Re: Otter / Beaver Midair Ketchikan

Depending on how far back you're thinking, I don't believe that is accurate. Prior to last summer, you would have to go back about 10 years to find Simpson Air's last incident. You might be thinking of Wolverine Air which has had 3 in the last 6 or 7 years. Last summer both companies had one acciden...

Re: 3 dead, 2 uninjured in NWT

I have my own guess as to what happened, as I’m sure most experienced float drivers will, both I do not have the facts and as such, out of respect for the deceased and the people whose lives are currently being affected by this tragedy, I will keep it to myself. I think the really unsavoury part abo...

Re: 3 dead, 2 uninjured in NWT

Terrible two days for Fort Simpson based aviation first with the CBD6 crash and a day later, this. I've long maintained that the 206 is a terribly unsafe design for a float plane. If beaver doors have been redesigned for better egress, this aircraft should not even be allowed in commercial float ops...

Re: 705 Guaranteed Days Off

Interesting responses, thank you very much. I suppose I must not have had a clear understanding about what constitutes of GDO at a place like Jazz. Surely they don't reserve the right to work you to the maximum allowed in the CARS, do they? Perhaps if there are not GDO's in the sense in which I inte...

705 Guaranteed Days Off

Since money isn't everything, I'm curious to see how many GDO's is average at the 705 level. I feel like once a certain level of pay is achieved, time off becomes a much better indicator of quality of life. Feel free to include any other relevant info, such as airline, type flown, GDOs, RDs, etc.
