Re: Here's an interesting method of building hours.

Hmmm...he didn't seem to quote his 702 Air Ops Certificate number and the ops spec for single engine night carrying of passengers.

Re: Foreflight now has Canadian IFR charts and plates on Ipa

Looks like the Canadian plates have no geo-referencing. I am hoping that is in the works. I read on the media annoucement that the CFS and VNCs are arriving in the near future.

Re: Chatham, Ont Flight School in the news

Over 300 students a year plus the regular customers? Can a school that size even handle that kind of operation/growth? I would think even the large flight schools in this country would have trouble taking on that kind of student load. Not to sound negative, but I do hope the management knew what the...

Re: Please Teach the Students

I couldn't agree more that students should know where the information applicable to them is located and how to get that information. I also agree that flight schools should cover those soft skills such as knowing the difference between a regulation and a standard. However, if you really want to see ...

Re: IFR upgrade?

As it stands right now, you can upgrade your Group 3 to a Group 1 with a simple IFR renewal ride in an approved FTD. A number of flight schools are now doing this. That being said, the regulator could put a policy statement out to change that at any time.

The forced approach and pwr-off 180 accuracy approach would be very intersting to say the least. How well does your twin glide with both engines failed?

Re: Seneca Certificate vs. BFC flight college.

I think there is some confusion in this thread. There is a MAJOR difference between Seneca College and their 4 year degree program vs. the program that is offered in a partnership with Toronto Airways and gives the student a Seneca College Certificate. I believe that is what the original poster was ...

Re: PTR

I would say that it isn't a given that it will count. You would want to ensure the instructor at the school giving you a checkout is well aware of your intentions of using this checkout time towards the 35 hour dual requirement for a CPL. Those 35 hours dual are supposed to be under an approved CPL ...

Re: take off briefing

From the TC Private Pilot Flight Test Standards: Flight Test Exercises - Ex. 16 - Takeoff For the purpose of this exercise, the examiner may specify simulated conditions for the takeoff such as surface conditions, obstacles to be cleared and available runway length. Note 1: The candidate must be abl...

Re: PTR

Hello: If you didn't have a PTR since your PPL, then I would probably think that you were simply renting airplanes for the most part at these different FTU's at not working under the guidance of some kind of commerical training program. All training flights require a pre flight briefing with an inst...

Re: Cat Driver: I am tired of your instructor bashing

I find it a shame that people who read this forum don't get to benefit from Cat's experience and knowledge as it is usually hidden within a pile of crap he spews up in his posts. I did go back and re-read a lot of his old posts, and no doubt he offers great advice, but you have to dig deep to find i...

Re: The instructor pay farce.

It's great that instructors are making a decent wage. That being said... We have priced out a lot of the recreational pilot market. The reason the wage has gone up is simply because the market for pilot jobs is excellent and schools are experiencing difficulty retaining instructors. There is a huge ...

I never post...but yeah, have to give a shout out to Sharon Chandler, it is great to see so many people say good things about that lady. TC is very lucky to have her. She works with another inspector there at YHM named Brenda Frame. She is also great! Deb Fyke in Toronto is a pleasure to deal with. ...
