Re: PA31-350 Ground School

Hey there. Sorry I have taken so long to respond to requests for this, I have been on the road for a long time. Some of you asked more than 2 years ago, which means you are likely AC captains by now. If for some reason you still need the ground school. Here it is, please update and reshare for all t...

Re: FlightPath Challenger Post

I know a couple of guys working there. They have hired a few low time guys, what they lacked in total time they made up for in personality and attitude. The chief pilot is a guy that was given a chance early in his career, so he looks for people that will complement the company, not necessarily the ...

Re: Huge discouragement

Many many moons ago I was at Landmark really early one day for a flight across the ocean. I got my airplane ready to go and then had some time to kill while I waited for the skipper to show up. I bumped into a couple of airline guys. I stood around with a coffee in my hand while they bitched nonstop...

Flying a Navajo single pilot out of Thompson, Manitoba. Great group of people to work with, well maintained airplanes, no pressure. It was tonnes of fun.

Re: Using a US Trust to own an N-registered plane in Canada

It is legit if done correctly. Operating part 91 is easy. Will take a little extra work.

CRA will come looking for their taxes though. So be prepared to pay HST.

Re: Companies repeatedly posting

Instructors are much more easily trained than a 200hr pilot. They also learn by themselves much better and generally require less hand holding. That is a very bold statement. On what facts are you basing it on? Our company experience is almost exactly the opposite. Some of the colleges turn out a g...

Re: Age Discrimination

As someone that does the hiring. I do not turn away applications based on age. I currently have an ad up now for a captain position, all of the applicants have been either instructors with zero experience outside of 25NM or 20,000+ hour guys. I called all the guys that applied. They all said the sam...

Re: 1000 Hour Pilot Looking for Advice

I am chief pilot at a small company, which operates 703 and 704 aircraft. As someone that looks at hiring people often, and pays attention to who is hiring and for what seat, I would say stay right where you are and keep applying for King Air FO jobs and such. Air Canada turned on the biggest vacuum...

Re: What do you drive to work?

Thompson was damn cold, well all of Manitoba was damn cold. Having a breakdown on the side of highway 6 in winter is a life threatening situation. I drove that road at night once and saw perhaps two other cars in 6 hours, and they were both in the southern portion of MB. It does not take long for yo...

Re: Changing N reg to C

Curious What if it is a much larger airplane. A friend of mine is currently working on getting a Challenger 300 going for a US resident that owns a company in Canada. Some travel to Canada will take place, but the airplane will be N registered. The first time you come to Canada you need to pay taxes...

Re: TC to FAA licence conversion

Does the ATPL (ACM) conversion exam convert the IR rating as or do we have the write the ICP (instrument) as well? I called the FAA in Oaklahoma they said yes. Then I called the FSDO I selected for my verification and they said only the ACM exam is required and that will include the instrument... C...

Re: FAA Foreign Licence Validation Letter

Can you get a verification letter and take your type ratings from your TC license? If I do a Challenger 604 rating next month. Then apply for the letter of verification, will my CL64 rating go over? or do I need to do an FAA ride? I hear for the CPL you can. But the ATPL you cannot. Anyone do this r...

Re: C-GNDN 1st Gulfstream G650 added to Canadian Register

I was in KVNY last week and had the chance to talk to the drivers of a 650. They told me the FMS did not have data for slower than mach 0.85, and that they rarely cruised less than 0.90. Sweet machine. But it was 75 million USD. Crazy money.

Re: Current Bird, Bucket List, Dream Job

That said. I think this is very accurate. One fine hot Summer’s afternoon saw a Cessna 172 flying circuits at a quiet country airfield. The Instructor was getting quite bothered with the student’s inability to hold circuit height in the thermals and was getting impatient at sometimes having to take ...
