Re: Maintenance / Inventory Tracking Software (best)

Sorry for the slow reply as I hadn’t been on AvCanada for a few days! Yes we have many Heli operators on WinAir. The program is set up very modular. Pricing can very depending on level of features. Would you like to talk further about what type of package your operation would be most suited for so I...

Re: Nobody Learned From Airplane!

When I flew corporate, it was company policy for the crew members not to eat the same thing. It always came down to the captain ordering first, then the f/o to scramble because his choice was taken. I flew with a ex USMC guy for years who would always ask as you were pro using the menu, what you wer...

Re: New Aviation series on History TV

Trailer looks great! It is good to see so many tv shows hitting the airwaves centered on different types of ops.

Wow! It is actually really cool to see someone making money in aviation! I bet this guy would be a hoot to sit in the bar with and tell flying stories!

Re:

I just looked this up and I think I'm more confused about the whole thing than before I read about it. Basically the iPad gps wether it be 3G or wifi is unreliable/ unusable. To have a reliable accurate gps overlay in an iPad app there are a couple different external after market units that connect...

Re: iPad Pilots

The first approach at night I did, the iPad burnt my eyes out of the scokets even with the brightness turned to the bottom. I felt like a dumb dumb when I found out ForeFlight has a dimmer in the settings menu that further dims the screen. Since finding that option I have been able to dime the scree...

Re: The Highs and Lows of International Flying

What a great read. I understand the problems breaking down in remote areas in the Canadian north, but in a foreign country with poor infrastructure must be even more frustrating!

A pretty impressive landing and take off considering he is still a student! I've seen students who would over shoot a 8000ft runway!

Re: iPad Pilots

I have the 32Gig iPad 1 in WiFi. I need a new computer this year and am not upgrading to an iPad 2. The wifi version works great with the 5870! I have only used ForeFlight. While it doesn't have Canadian approach plates, the USGS charts tend to cover the southern part of Canada (especially in Ontari...

Re: iPad Pilots

I have been using Foreflight when flying in the states for months now. It works great and I have never had an issue with it. Mind you both crew members have our iPads charged and in the cockpit incase of an issue. I just recently was at Sporty's and bought a GNS 5870 as an impulse buy. What a great ...

You might have something there! The rooster didn't appear to put up much fight. Maybe the dog is just answering the call of nature and the rooster is the sick one!

Re: Advice to New Commercial Students

The problem is where FTU GPS does exist it is all about the button pushing. The important part of GPS flying, particularly using GPS when flying VFR, is how to effectively incorporate it into real world preflight planning and in flight pilot decision making.....and to do that you have to have some ...

Thx kk7. I'll re-read the thread and may Pm you if I have any questions. I've read through the thread a couple times and my ADD kicks in with all the bashing that goes on when VAL's name comes up.

Voyaguer in Africa

First off if you are going to Voyageur bash stop reading now and move on to the next thread! Is there anyone who has worked at any of the Africa bases? I'm just looking for some inside info on working conditions, living accommodations, scheduling etc. I'm just trying to get a perspective from someon...

Re: What If I dont want to work for Air Canada....

Westcoasting, I had a great career flying for almost 15 years and 8500 hours. I just recently lost my medical and won't have it back for 5-8 years which is a career ender for me. I never chased heavy tin, never wanted the life style or politics of working in a large airline. I loved flying smaller a...

Re: iPad vs. a Laptop?

I have had a iPad for a year now and love it! I hardly use my MacBook except to do heavy-duty word-processing and other technical jobs. Most of my computer work is email or web based and the iPad is great for that. When I'm traveling on the road, it is nice to not be lugging my MacBook in my flight ...
