I bought mine at Vistek on Bank St in Ottawa. Aluminium, landscape, 3-post expandable, etc. Not too expensive on sale.

+ 1 ..... - minus the reserves - plus the only thing I can remember is my college number because every time I was in a pub/ward (which was often) I got asked for it so that the more senior officers could scam beer off me :( There used to be RCN, RCAF and Regimental Service Numbers. The unified CF s...

Rockcliffe Flying Club @ CYRO. We have the Cessna 170B for basic tailwheel and the Super Decathlon for tailwheel aerobatic instruction. You can even do your RPP or PPL in the C-170. Both aircraft are available for short or longer term rentals too. Our biggest problem has been growing and keeping ful...

Re: Missing north of Peterborough

Get into the haze or fog with no horizon and you will see that is it way worse than the actual solid IMC. Your eyes bouncing from the instruments to the visible ground or worse water, your head turning all around you will get you disoriented much faster. I do not enjoy flying during the transition ...

It's 100nm total flight distance. I did one a couple years ago "around" Ottawa Terminal, with approaches at Smith Falls, Brockville, Gatineau and back to Carp. Absolutely does not have to be done in a twin. I did one with a student in his RV-9 last month, 160 KIAS at 6.5 gph. If you already have the...

Re: Ferry pilot

I bet nobody at your flight school has even seen a Cardinal, let alone flown an 'A' model. I bought my C-177 while I was still a student, had to wait until I had the license to pick it up. It was the 1968 model with the 160HP conversion. It had enough power, just kept one or two seats empty on the ...

I did Winnipeg - Ottawa in a Cardinal, ink on my license still wet and me with 49 hours. Bring a friend, share the fun. C-177A is not the underpowered one. It has an O-360, 180HP and CS prop. The original 1968 C-177 had the O-320, 150HP and fixed pitch, exactly like a C-172. It could feel a little u...

I have a full-time consulting job in a non-aviation field, do freelance IFR and tailwheel flight instruction in my free time and still instruct weekends at a local FTU. What is (are) the question(s)?

We now have our Cessna 170B GOAW on-line at Rockcliffe Flying Club with several tailwheel instructors available. It will be available for rent, the rate is the same as the 172 trainers. I spent the last two weekends working with four other instructors. The winds at Gatineau this morning were great f...

So I did. :D I am disappointed, but not surprised, by the instructors refusal to authorize the flight. Sadly I think good ME training and IFR, for that matter, is th...

I wonder if my insurance company would cover me solo on my own twin, pre-rating. Should not be an issue. I flew my Baron down to Cornwall solo to do the M-rating. The only limitation was no passengers. Insurance company was fine with it. My four-bar instructor was insisting the trip had to be dual....

I do not know the owner/pilot of the aircraft personally but I do know of him and have heard a couple of things from someone close to him. - Yes he screwed up and forgot to put the gear down - He doesn't have hull insurance so he will be paying to fix this himself - The wrecker that picked the plan...

Finally, if you just completed the runup very recently with a carb heat check, do you still do the carb heat thing on the runway for the first flight. I never have but perhaps it is better to do so. And if doing flight school circuits in a Cessna 140/150/152 in carb ice weather, do it for every tou...

Perhaps similar to the technique used with another classic tailwheel aircraft that was flipped this year in Ottawa, land hot & brake hard until all motion stops? lots of recent maintenance and no flying. ...
