Re: NavCanada hiring practices vs the airlines
I'd guess it's about 10 to 15% but I'm not sure, I'll get a hold of training some day next week and I'll see what they say for official per centage. We have maximum hours per 56 day cycle we can work, maximum shift length is 11.5 hours, i can't remember the max hours per 56 days because I don't work...

Re: NavCanada hiring practices vs the airlines
Would it be fair at this point to ask how much overtime you do at NavCanada? Its the same logic you applied to the other poster. I work very little overtime, maybe 1 a month. Lots of people work more than me, in my unit I don't think anyone works less. I am also the person who does a lot of the dec...

Re: NavCanada hiring practices vs the airlines
All you need to know about NavCanada: YWG Center Enroute Controller Pass rate is less then 4%. And that's from OJT only, not even the initial class of trainees. Gilles, NavCan is a private company, not a government agency. You have to pay for the initial aptitude testing that NavCan contracts out. ...

[quoteThere is a definite increase in the number of problem passengers on cheap southern vacations][/quote] We see it at this airport all the time, the pax show up 3 or 4 hours early, check in and then head for the bar because they are on vacation...a lot of em are gassed before they go through secu...

Re: Plane seized in suspected caribou hunt
Can't say he was formally charged, I do know it happened. Last I knew he was assigned desk duty here and then faded away. I was surprised to hear he was still RCMP. BTW he is of Native American descent.

I'm guessing that if the impaired driving and domestic assault didn't end his RCMP career this little hunting thing will go away too.

Re: CBC Fifth Estate "Left for Dead" airs November 16, 2012
I was just wondering, looking at this thread, if I was the only one astounded about the atrocious Search and Rescue (S&R) system we have in Canada. I was just wondering if anybody does any research before they spout off on this forum. The relocation of the S & R dispatch center station, in August 2...

Re: Sunwing Vacations - customer service issue
Westjet (or similar reputable airline)
from my dealings with them that is certainly an oxymoron
It strikes me as kind of funny Sunwing would buy your email address and spam you, I'm a repeat Sunwing customer and I don't get email from them.

Re: Strong x-wind? declare an emergency.
I'm guessing you have never seen video footage of max crosswind landing tests. Not only have I seen them I've been in a tower working while they were doing them. It's sad to read this thread and see the comments like (and I'm paraphrasing) he flipped ATC the bird, good for him. I guess it goes to s...

Re: SNOWBIRDS COMING TO AIRDRIE
I've dealt with them several times over the years, and I agree 1000%, besides how many Demo teams around the world fly an aircraft that's no longer in service........The snowbird teams that I have had to deal with at airshows is not what I want representing the country.

Re: National Discussion Paper Launched (Potential site closures)
GilletteNorth Our own union management is working with the company to conduct the LOS review Doesnt that strike some of you FSS as being part of the problem? Wouldn't you be better off to let the Company figure out what they are going to do then either give it the Union's stamp of approval or find f...

If they are talking those kind of numbers that statement should readPlus if this is going to be a long term thing, they'll have to reopen the FSS to handle those sort of numbers.
Plus if this is going to be a long term thing, they'll have to reopen the TOWER to handle those sort of numbers.

Re: Successful transition from FSS to ATC
The training isn't the hard part Spoken like a true FSS that has never done it getting into it is Why shouldn't FSS cross trainers have to meet the same selection criteria as everybody else? There's a 5 year restriction for any FSS to crosstrain to ATC. Stupid EOCO program.... but I'm not bitter On...

Will it be like the simulator, where "if you have a moment" they can turn back the clock and give you a second go at it. If the Union stands still for this we're all screwed. Maybe we could close all the towers and have the equivalent of "centers" for VFR. now you've done it, the puzzle palace at 77...

We had a security audit the other day, seems I can't have a pocket knife, (a cheap swiss army copy) in my office for opening the mail. Security took it, and I was allowed to pick it up from their office once I was on my home and out of the secure area. twelve feet (I measured it) is our kitchen, whe...
