Re: Who Wants to Fly WJ
Sunwing was limited on how much it could grow its business model with the European deployments and bringing back wet / dry leases in the winter. They wanted into a larger airline that they could integrate with to continue to grow the revenue stream for their hotels. Thats all this merger was about f...

Re: Why WestJet?
The company has played this perfectly, regrettably the Union has taken a short sighted view for half a dozen upgrades. No unity amongst the group doesn't bode well for CA3.

Re: Westjet hiring of sunwing cadets
Interesting thread. I understand the apprehension with some of the lower time pilots. Do most captains not take the hard leg if there is going to be poor conditions? Ie YYT when its storming. I do and its not against my fo, just mitigating risk. Certainly under 95% of sectors the conditions are usua...

Can't wait to hear why.

The EB-2 takes time if your qualified, 2 yrs plus to go through all the hoops. We'll see the number pick up over the next year as more and more who got the Visa get green cards.

Re: TA
For those qualified its time to look at the US via the EB-2 Visa. For some reason we can't seem to get it done in this country, yesterday they were saying how far apart they were, without evening issuing 72 hr notice for a strike you get this. There is a massive divergence between what you were bein...

Re: WestJet Pension
An extra three day pairing each month is a lot of extra work when you consider they already need to put in 14-16 days to get mmg.
That wage would be roughly equivalent to a mid seniority FO at an American major. I can see why AC did not want to equate to that payscale.

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority
The benefit is the work, WJ is already doing 8 planes worth of work this winter. Traditionally this had gone to TUI partners for which Sunwing received reciprocal work in the summer during their slow season. Most that wanted to fly a widebody go to AC, Sunwing is a lifestyle company. Oh and the LOU ...

Re: Realistic upgrade time
This is 100% the case, if you have the experience then AC is the place to be. Your career earnings at AC with 35 / 40 years in the left seat will massively outweigh what you can do at WJ. This exercise is a fool's errand. The upgrade time for FO's who've been around for 9 years is about 9 years+/- 1...

Re: Realistic upgrade time
Upgrades at AC are currently inside 2 yrs on the 220. Anyone looking to make money should be looking at AC and not WJ. Do some math on the wages your giving up over the 6-10 yrs longer you will sit in the right seat at WJ.

Re: Common Employer CIRB
Listened to the podcast today, ALPA dangling upgrades at a senior base where sunwing is a very small player seems fairly disingenuous. If you’re YVR based Sunwing doesn’t fly much from there. Most of the wetleases that will be taken over are in the east.

Re: Sunwing/Westjet
Sunwing has rsv but the QOL on rsv isn't bad. max 16 days helps a lot as well as our rsv times are 8 hrs and over set periods. A rsv assignment can't infringe on a day off. Were best effort 2 hrs to report, but thats not a 100% requirement.

Re: Sunwing/Westjet
There are definitely positives in Sunwing's contract that will be worth keeping, it would be foolish not to consider the improvements where they can be made. Sunwing's work is different then WJ so by nature the contract wouldn't be tailored to that type of work. The merger is a nice windfall for WJ ...

Re: They were going to lock everyone out and shut the doors?
Swoop is clearly meant to reduce the cost of running your airline. Which means front and back ends, mostly everything else is a fixed cost. Plainly its an attack on you and your colleagues careers, because really its the only place to save. Unionizing and voting to strike will probably be one of the...

Regarding the cultural difference are you trying to insinuate 5t doesn't deice all the time with frost? Because I'm certain the competition does. Regarding the FO taking the control, When I worked at 7f we routinely did a scenario in Sim where the captain became incapacitated at a critical moment in flight. In our scenario though the captain was completely incapacitated not like this accident. Further the CRM course, i thought, was actually p...

How many days a month do you guys work on average? Whats the block hours for that? Can you bid single day turns or is it mostly multi day pairings?
Hopefully the transition to the new bases is smooth.
