A320, Cat IIIA, No DH/RVR 600, w autoland/autobrakes. Life is good ;) However, good luck getting a stable RVR readout in YYT if its down to minimums. They also bought the fancy RVR system that updates continuously. So with YYT WX being as "stable" as it is, the RVR should be all over the map

Re: Aviation Degree vs. University Degree
Back 5 years ago when I was more in tune wth hiring process, I knew that as far as AC was concerned an aviation diploma carried exactly the same weight as a university degree in any field as far as the selection process goes. Today that may have changed but I doubt it. Education is important, howeve...

3 jobs, 16 years
Started in 2000, but didn't land my first paid flying job until 2007. Can honestly say landing that first job was the toughest, but paved the way for the rest of my career so far. Consider myself lucky.

Re: LogTen Pro X
Currently I'm using Libreoffice and like it much better than OpenOffice but that's me. Very similar to word and excel. I used to use an excel logbook and it worked great when I was inputting data. However once the interview came and it came time to printing it out, the proper formatting became more ...

Re: What kind of shoes do you wear?
Biggest question should be, are you doing winter walk-arounds, or are you not? That should determine if your wearing a dressy leather shoe with little need for grip, or if you should opt for a boot style with some traction. Personally, I've attempted the dressy leather shoe for a winter walk around ...

Wasn't shoved down anyone's throat. Was voted on and passed. Actually a collection of 3 successive contracts where wages, & pensions are guaranteed through each round. Options to negotiate other conditions every 3 years, or pull out of the deal completely.

Re: LCC Pilot Contracting, Ryanair blaze a trail.
RyanAir has been pushing the boundaries for years. Nothing new here. In my opinion it's a sign of the times, and an inside look at how these execs think. Coming soon to an airline near you. Not trying to be cynical, but from what I've seen from this industry over the past 15-20 years, what's going t...

Re: First Year Air Canada Pay
As a second year EMJ FO, my pay currently varies between $2800-3200/mo take home. And yes that includes per diems. Lately I'm flying about 67-73 hours per month. It greatly depends on what you bid for, and I generally have been doing a lot of single day turns. This generally works out to be about 10...

Re: Sky Regional vs Mainline
Here's the thing, AC has been hiring pretty intensely for the past 2 years. One would imagine that they would mostly take as many 705 people as possible, since they integrate easier through the training program. But after 2 years of interviewing, they will have mooched most of the experienced 705 gu...

Re: Porter Terms and Conditions
what's the schedule like for new FO's?? all single pair pairings or mostly all overnights?? Like most places completely depends on when you get hired, and more importantly who gets hired behind you. My first month, I was on reserve, but the following month, I had 2 and 3 day pairings, exactly like ...

Re: Porter groundschools?
Anyone in the pool heard any news yet? I've heard they are really sticking to that 3000 hrs with an ATPL now for FO's. Latest I heard was the next groundschools won't be until early in the new year. February, March... As for interviews, who knows. I'd be kind of curious to know how large their pool ...

Re: Where should I apply to start working ramp?
I think your going to find that most companies around will advertise 2+ years on the ramp right now, simply due to the fact that there is not much movement industry wide. One thing I've learned in my limited experience so far is that things change. Just because they say 2 years, doesn't necessarily ...

Re: Jobs right out of school?
I began down the instructing route myself after school, however had a tough time of it due to a lot of bad luck and more specifically, lack of students. If your flat broke like many who just finished their cpl, I would strongly recommend taking a ramp job. Depending on where you go, you may be able ...

Re: Colgan leaving lounge lights on in response to fatigue issue
Seems to me a lot of you are missing the core problem here. Don't any of you recall how hungry you were for your first job? Willing to work the ramp tossing bags for $6/hour for 1, 2 or even 3 years, just to earn the chance of "starting" your career. This same mentality is what's going on here at Co...

AS IF the email-forging, data-destroying climate scientist clowns Right, because the oil and gas companies have no stake WHATSOEVER in the climate change discussions. Re: Bose noise cancelling headset
Although I use DC's with a 3rd party ANR kit, I just use rechargables. One battery usually lasts about 10 hours or so (in a Metro mind you), but as long as you keep them charged after one goes dead each day, you'll save yourself a lot of cash over the long run. Unless of course your company provides...

Re: YWG area
Perimeter does have a lot going for it, even if the wait time on the ground is longer. The fact that it is one of the largest airlines in this area means when things start moving again, there is a LOT of movement which is good for everyone. The pay is also quite good especially when you get on to me...
