Re: Olympic security screw up
Hmm... If I wanted to find out how to make the meanest explosive possible (and I hadn't been trained by the CIA), I think there would be 2 obvious choices: The internet, and Discovery channel. It never ceases to amaze me that you can find out how to make a small shaped charge just by watching T.V. A...

Re: Obama ends program that let pilots carry guns
Are any of the items on resupply trucks screened? Also, I find it funny that we practically get raped by the security in Yellowknife, and then for the rest of the trip to Edmonton, we are issued a metal knife, fork, spoon set by Canadian North. On their tenth aniversary, everyone was given a little ba...

Re: Obama ends program that let pilots carry guns
Only time will tell What is true or not, but if it's true that pilots can be criminally indicted for speaking about the program, well, lets just say I already have plenty of reasons to doubt government statements. At least if this ban was to take place, I could rank it in the "Well, that's beurocrat...

Re: Canada begins Arctic flights to find who owns the North Pole
If I remember correctly, the company is out of Europe somewhere. Last summer they were doing some work on the pack ice. Their bird certainly could pass for a Borek plane with it's colors, but I think it has a long probe sticking out the front.

Email and the REPLY Button: "Anything you say can, and will
Email is used all the time and is a great tool. However recent events have brought problem to light. Most people are happy to simply press the REPLY button, send EVERYTHING back to the sender with the addition of a reply. At present, file size is not the problem. The problem is who else might reciev...

Re: Canada begins Arctic flights to find who owns the North Pole
It's a nice looking bird, and the engineers told me it was chosen because it esentially is the largest readily available aircraft that can be mounted with skis; important for all of the polar work they do. One thing that is unique about it is that this is a DC-3 on steroids! It would guess that at l...

Re: Lightning strikes
It's quite possible that the Glassair would have sustained less damage had it been airborn at the time of the strike. I would like to know if the plane was grounded or not, and what difference this might have on a ground strike.

Re: What do employers want in an apprentice?
No aviation job as of yet. It's been about 2 months since I tried. Right now I am busy helping with a family business. I AM willing to move...if the situation is favorable. Some of you might think that I shouldn't bitch if I am not willing to give it my all. I agree. However, having been left hangin...

Re: Worst engine in aviation
This AME is/isn't an actual engineer topic is interesting. It's true that my AME course at SAIT offered only the theory and related tables when it came to strength and vibrations, amps and watts and the like, but having done 2 semesters in U of C Engineering, I have to admit that most of my class ma...

Once again, thanks for the input. I'll take it to heart; actually I have no choice but to: I have the aviation bug!

Thanks for all of the great feed back. Even you Troubleshot, just try to keep a few things in mind. First, this is not my resume. I come to this forum with the expectation that I can say my piece and how I feel about it, and maybe get some good feedback. Do you actually think I would represent my se...

What do employers want in an apprentice?
O.k. This may seem like a stupid question, but it begs to be asked. What are DOM's really looking for? The reason I ask is because of the lack of response I have had in the past to my resume. I am 32 and have been around the cabbage patch a time or two. I did excellent in school, and have enough tim...

Re: Swallows, the N.W.T. E.N.R, the migratory bird Act, and I!
The pellet rifle is a Hamereli 490, as in 490 ft per sec, so no, from what I am used to, this is not a firearm. The other thing is that he asked me if I was shooting a firearm the day before, but he hadn't read me my rights yet, so my statement can't be used in court anyway! Now, as for making littl...

Swallows, the N.W.T. E.N.R, the migratory bird Act, and I!
CAUTION! To all hanger operators and applicable employees, make sure you read the Migratory Birds Act before you do anything that might affect the well being of a Migratory Bird. Here are a few of the important sections. Skip to the bottom for my experience with an overzelous Renewable Resources Off...

Pre 911 on my way from Calgary to Inuvik, I put my change and leatherman in the little basket and walked through the metal detector. They used the wand, and aside from my watch and belt buckle, only my steel toed winter boots caused a reaction. "Are those steel toed?" "yes." Was waved on, picked up ...

This has nothing to do with your bird problem, but when it comes to wasp's, eapecially Mud wasps, they will get in anywhere they can and start a hive. A company called Lee Valley sells a "dumby" wasp nest that you just hang fron your house. Wasps are territorial, and so new wasps will not buid anoth...

Loose Change is just one of many documentaries that calls into question the official version of 911. Alex Jones is another guy whose life work is "conspiracy theories", and yet I hesitate to use the term conspiracy anymore. How about building #7? Maybe the fact that the U.S. government STILL will no...

I can't comment on other schools, but having finished the course at SAIT, I would highly recomend it. I know that getting an A Star is high on their list as they want to stay current, and their new heli instructor is excellent. We pretty much tore the 206b apart, transmission, Main rotor, Tail rotor...

I don't know about the Peg, but in YYC there is a company called Alcals (a part of Western Avionics). Worked there while going to school. Anywho, the bring up a lot of U.S. military surplus stuff. If you can't find anything locally, give them a shout.
