Re: Will Flair/Sunwing survive

Well that is good news. I was not aware that Flair was operating. Good to know. I am trying to stay optimistic that things will return faster then the general airline executive sentiment. I hope so! But better to prepare for the worst, and hope for the best, which is what Flair and I'm sure every a...

Re: The Return to Normal?

I agree with you on public sentiment and the desire to get out and travel. The likely hole in your argument is the 14 day quarantine after returning to Canada. Tam has stated this is to remain in effect as part of Canada’s best practice strategy. A second wave will extent this strategy. Other count...

Re: The Return to Normal?

Sorry to have to break it to y’all, things are not going to be back to normal anytime soon. When it does, all the big boy toys are going to be “flown” by some 40 year old guy/gal using MS Flight Sim in his or her mommy’s basement. (All “contract” workers, no benefits, nada, nimini, nyet,) My bad. I...

Re: Best guess when recalls could happen

Like many on here, I have no idea and would take the job. "A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush" sorta thing. But I don't agree with the overall pessimistic outlook many seem to share here. Well it won't return overnight, I do suspect demand will return quicker than most people think. ...

Re: Covid 19 testing for those of us still working

Some industries are testing everyone and rightfully so. For flight crew unless we have symptoms and go to a hospital we won't be tested. I am hoping as testing improves all essential workers will be allowed access to testing even if we are symptom free. Ontario's guidelines below show how narrow th...

Re: Layoff Numbers

That's a pretty arrogant thing to say. You are aware there are airlines in Canada without shareholders, aren't you? Actually, there are no airlines without shareholders. All corporations have shareholders. You are aware of that aren't you ? The thing is, the vast majority of corporations are not pu...

Re: Layoff Numbers

In the US, the big 3 are looking at eligibility for US$10B each in government assistance (that is C$14B). The US also puts strings on the money, nobody laid off till October, and all destinations continue to get service. It's neatly set up so that no town loses service entirely, and no airline empl...

Re: Layoff Numbers

The only operator that I have heard (anecdotally) is topping up to 100% is Flair.Anybody else? I've heard Flair filed a grievance about the CEWS. I'm not sure of the details though. No grievance was ever filed about the CEWS. In fact it meant recalling all furloughed pilots and paying them a full s...

I still think we are in a wait and see phase. Only once provinces, and the rest of the world begin opening up their economies again and start to slowly lift restrictions, will we see how the consumers, and the virus respond.

Re: Fresh CPL pilot job outlook

Hey everyone! Kind of a random question but I'm hoping you can shed some light. I see many pilot jobs that will send you all over the country and you're far from your base for a few days. Is there such a job (FO or captain) in this industry where you're home everyday with a decent schedule? Or does...

Re: Fresh CPL pilot job outlook

I have had 6 flying jobs over 33 years. I got every job as a result of contacts in the industry that gave me a heads up or recommended me. Who you know is everything in this Industry. It is going to be very hard for low time pilots to get a flying job for probably several years as there is going to...

Re: When do you think flying will be back to february 2020 level

I think if anything this is going to exacerbate the shortage going forward. While that demand is acutely surpressed, there is no doubt that level of travel demand will return. What is certain is any entry level pilots or prospective pilots will be scared away from the industry after this most recen...

There is nothing wrong with asking for advice on an aviation forum. Isn't that part of the point of a forum? Doing taxes isn't overly complicated unless you have a corporation or a more complicated joint filing. Some people are savvy enough to do it. Your comparison of taxes to surgeries is apples t...

Re: Flair rehires all laid off employees

This program is only until June 6th. Does anyone in their right mind think airlines will be ramping up or even relatively close to ramping up, not a chance. This program is likely just the Federal governments way of using one of the largest/hardest hit industry to alleviate pressure on the EI syste...

Re: Companies Laying off.

I wouldn't worry about companies laying off. This virus will pretty much be the end of aviation as we know it. This virus is expanding exponentially and will kill off any remaining airlines. It's just a matter of time. Anyone who thinks this matter will go away in three to four months is out of tou...

I was at Sky and from my video interview to an email setting up my in person was 10 months (that was in 2017-18). You probably moved on too quickly. As you left an express carrier your application died with it I would believe. I suppose anything's possible! Ah well, I've reapplied anyways 😬 Thanks!

Sorry, I assumed you were at Jazz given you were talking about PML and technically no other express carrier has ever had a PML. Even a version 2.0. No sweat! Simple misunderstanding. I was at Georgian and yes, there was a PML. Though it was never really as efficient as planned. So my video intervie...

Well, you're fighting from one of about 350 positions. Up against military, SW, WJ and overseas widebody Captains. Probably would have been a better idea to stay at Jazz. You'd have been at AC a year already. Guess it wasn't so smart after all to go to Flair for the quick payday. I wasn't at Jazz a...

Maybe somebody can chime in but I had applied at Air Canada several times in my career. I got the video interview in Feb 2017 as part of the PML program, yet I never heard a word from HR after completion. I'm now at another airline and have applied a couple of times since and still nothing. I even h...
