Re: Impressions of BCIT and its graduates?
Last year had a new alternator and voltage regulator installed by a BCIT apprentice working under a fairly large AMO here in the lower mainland. I figure I I ended up paying for his training time since it took a l-o-n-g time. After the cowls were slapped back on and the plane pushed out of the hange...

Re: free lance class 3 instructors czbb
Yeah you can go ahead and hire a freelance instructor for the 35hrs dual and then take the flight test assuming that they are on the insurance and then have the authority to recommend you to do your ride. I'm not to sure about this but I heard recently that the hours you build up for your commercial...

Re: What do you keep on hand while flying?
Pretty much keep the yoke in one hand and a map on my lap. In the back I have a couple life vests, survival kit, first aid kit and I guess I have and e6b and all that jazz but I find it more of a distraction than actually looking out the window concentrating on traffic. Especially around Vancouver t...

Re: free lance class 3 instructors czbb
Forgot to say I assume you have your own wings? If not I'm positive no school would rent you an airplane to have one of their instructors or yours be PIC as schools there charge approx 65 per hr instructor rate and I know some instructors that don't make a third of that so a school would definitely ...

Re: free lance class 3 instructors czbb
most of them probably get paid crumbs anyways so just go to one of the schools and see if you can run into anybody that would like to make some (cough) tax-free $ on the side...

Re: Insurance
Last year my Cessna 150 cost me about $1450 for $30000 hull air and ground as well as $1000000 liability, this year was about $1350 and I use Park Insurance out of CYPK but the actual insurance is by AIM

Re: ATC was rude to the voice with brown skin at YPK today
Glen Valley is especially bad, I've seen so many people cross through there going back and forth between YPK and YCW without saying a peep and one day I saw a guy overshooting Glen Valley Intl. to the west as a guy was following the river and turned south right in front of his overshoot. Needles to ...

Re: Airlines Force Pilots to Fly Uncomfortably Low on Fuel
Its not only airlines that are doing it these days, down south near LA there have been may small single-engine crashes lately many being due to running out of go-juice. If the fellow pilot down south are doing it and their fuel is cheaper I just cant imagine how many people are flying around here lo...

Re: ATC was rude to the voice with brown skin at YPK today
It'll be interesting when the students have to take the English Proficiency test "Zulu-Bav-o, Bav-o" and the rest of them won't know what to do... I know its not a perfect system but maybe it can weed out a few? Ive flown a lot out of YPK and all the times ATC has been very laid back and easy so I d...

Re: ATC was rude to the voice with brown skin at YPK today
The YPK controllers have all been very accommodating every time I fly there including the East Indian one that you guys seem to think has an attitude issue. As far as making the student do "weird things" we really cant speculate what was going on but maybe its due to the pilot not understanding the ...

Re: Beaver incident in Nanaimo?
Lets look and see who the Beaver training pilot is at WCA? Guess what, there ins'tone. Yup, your right. Nada. None. They are probably better off without a Beaver training captain than the past "Beaver training captain" (who we will not name) that not only made for unsafe conditions by holding down ...

Wow "sam" I feel so special because you signed up months later just to rant... I stated nothing but the facts about what was happening and how many of us employees felt. If you don't like the facts go somewhere else or you could be what we call a "tool" and work for low pay while being under appreci...

Personally I think security for seaplane passengers should be stepped up... We have our fair share of drunk sometimes truly pissed off and irate passengers who shouldnt fly and definitly be next to the pilot on the plane for instance. If you fly from the south terminal at YVR to Victoria on Pasco's ...

If you're going to throw down a pile of cash, the TELEX Stratus 50D in my opinion would be the best headset in the market. -Total comfort, leather headpad, soft earseals, a headband that can be adjusted for tension -MP3 -Cell phone hookup -Auto Shutoff -AA batteries -And the best thing 50db reductio...
