Re: RCMP crash

Most pilots don’t want to admit that they will actually be safer in a single engine aircraft with no engine than a twin engine plane with one. It’s like gun owners. Statistically, the biggest threat is accidental discharge or self inflicted gun shot wound. I don’t know “Bob”. I’ve had 3 engine fail...

How long until we’re going to work every day using traditional navaids only because the U.S. government selectively shuts off GPS over Canadian airspace in an escalating trade war? Been a long time since I’ve done a DME Arc or the NDB A into anywhere.

Re: DEI And Aviation — Boeing’s take.

Saluko your blind spot in your whole argument is that since men and women are roughly equal parts of the population that it follows that they would naturally be roughly equally represented in aviation. In your own words men and women are psychologically different. I don’t think that they are vastly ...

“The US is a lot smaller than Canada airspace-wise. It would be an inconvenience to Canada and Canadians. It would be devastating to the US both economically and militarily.” The U.S. would just interrupt their GPS signal that the American Taxpayer provides virtually free to the world for about 24 h...

Didn't they just have a PA31 go down recently in the U.S.? 51k for Navajo captain is like 2010 wages.

In 2007 I was a Navajo skipper on the East Coast, two crew, making $29K. While wages can be specific to the region PAL Dash 8 skippers were barely making $55K.

Re: Jet stream down

Good info above, thanks. What's takeoff flaps for a Jetstream, and will it climb without any? A flap zero takeoff is an approved procedure. To do this changes the numbers a little. Essentially you can trade a longer ground roll for a better 3rd segment of climb. A full flap takeoff is not in anyway...

I know but the best way get information online is to just blurt out things confidently and wait for someone to correct you. And …. Placed on the ignore list. Thanks for your original post, John. Absolutely spot on. It was either cold side, or out all night with heaters inside. And, yes, they were w...

Re: Jet stream down

You are SO wrong. The airplane was in the cold side of the hangar. De-ice sprayer was standing by and the crew were observed climbing on ladders doing a tactile test just before closing up. NWAL has some issues but they are competent at operating in the North. I know but the best way get informatio...

Re: Jet stream down

The plane was pulled out of warm hangar into falling snow. There was a delay waiting for 3 passengers to arrive. When they took off the wings and/or tail were contaminated. The reason they want the name out of the news is they are worried about the deceased passenger's families and employer coming ...

Re: RCMP accident Whitehorse Yukon

But yes in the event of an actual total failure of the engine you would likely be more stressed in a PC12 than in a BE02 …….. Or the failure of a prop or gear box. The engine itself can remain running and you have hydraulic pumps and generators. But no thrust. Turbines and 2 of them. Once you open t...

Nobody's simmering dude. I'm just stating the facts. its easy to pretend that Encore doesn't exist and that position reductions at mainline = joining the bread line but that's just not true. And yes people certainly have every right to choose being unemployed over taking a downgrade to Encore. But t...

It'll look better with some vortex dissipators and a big ol flappy gravel protector on the nosewheel. No gravel kit for that bird. The high bypass turbines preclude it. It is the reason that the -200 is still in service there. The JT8D’s are the only engine approved (on the 737) for gravel ops. Yes...

By the time you’re there, you’ll probably be out of the flightlevels and redline nowhere near a critical Mach. I think it would have to be a really really cold day for it to happen. Could be but my point remains that there’s a secret, un-published limitation waiting for you out there. I’m sure some...

Flight_student think of the briefing as the lesson and the flying as lab time to prove the lesson. First you do the theory and then the practical.

Re: Best guess when recalls could happen

What were the hour requirements to go to Jazz or Porter 10 years ago? Anyone remember? 15 Years ago you needed anywhere between 3500 and 5000 hours. And it was WAY more than that in the ‘90s. Hopefully we won’t regress That far but I think the days of 1000hrs and away to the airlines are gone for a...
