There is also a small flight school in Gimli with a Beech Travelair... According to the website, it goes for $320/h dual.

No info on who does the training or how it is done though.

Hi, Usually there is a course offered in September in Southport, Mb. It's dependent on number of attendees and may vary a bit in terms of timeframe, but contact them to find out. The person in charge is helpfull and will tell you if it's doable or not. As far as cost goes, I have no idea... i think ...

Re: Is it rare for a ppl student to solo with ten hours or l
Hi, Students in Southport will solo at 12 hours. Nobody goes solo before or after that (except weather delays but solo happens at the 13 hours mark then). The syllabus is pretty rigid. Either you make it and you solo at that time, or you don't. 0.2 solo time (2 circuits) in the entire course. Final ...

Re: Flap setting on walkaround
You're right. I was just talking about the Grob we have here. I realize the way we operate it might be a bit different than most. Our ramp is clean, no oil, mud, FOD, etc... If rainy, walkaround can be done inside a hangar usually. No other aircraft except ours sitting outside. Not many people flyin...

Re: Flap setting on walkaround
Hi Ruckus,
We operate the Grob 120A like that as well. Full flaps prior to shutdown and flaps all the way up after start-up.
In my experience, it works great. Just have to check the main wheel from the front, lying down under the wing... the joy of a low wing retractable gear aircraft

Re: ELT Battery replacement
Hi everyone, Happy new year! Just to clarify, I was always willing to send the ELT for the battery replacement to an AME. Even if it seems an easy job on my ELT (Dorme & Magolin 6.1): a quick connector battery (http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/replacbatt.php) and 4 screws to remove to g...

Thanks for the help and clarification guys! Much appreciated...
I guess I'll listen to my AME (and TC
) and send the ELT to a specialized shop to replace the battery.
Cheers,
Greg

Re: ELT Battery replacement
Hi, I'm totally aware of the re-certification requirement as well and its requirement to be done by an avionic shop with a performance test. The ELT was re-certified in June 2015 but last time the battery was replaced was in December 2013. Go figure! The battery manufacturer says "replace it every 2...

ELT Battery replacement
Hi Guys, First time poster in the maintenance section of the forum… Got into ownership of a C172 not so long ago and still learning the ropes of maintenance scheduling ! Regarding the ELT battery replacement, I read the CAR’s standards 571 Appendix G as the replacement can be done by any AME’s becau...

No, they are owned by CAE who bought the assets/contract from Bombardier earlier this year I think... They operate from MooseJaw, Sk under the NFTC program. http://www.cae.com/CAE-to-acquire-Bombardier-s-Military-Aviation-Training-unit-to-expand-training-systems-integration-offering/ AlliedWings, no...

Re: RCAF Fleet
We still have them in Southport Mb, used for Phase3 training. The Bell 412's used for the helo multi engine and IFR courses are also missing on the website (they are former Griffons with some of the military systems removed). And no mention of the Grob120A either. Those training aircraft are civilia...

Another example of an email sent out today. Not as many details as above but hopefully it will help. BTW as a freshly new citizen, it's my 1st time writing to my MP and the Honorable Minister of Transport ! So if i can do it, others should be able to do it as well ;-) It's based on the EAA Canadian ...

Hey DHCdriver, I was just kidding. I'm a french guy currently living in Winnipeg, I moved from Steinbach where I did all my training and some instruction. I've been in Manitoba for 3 years now, not planning to move away... It's a great place for me ! Loved every minute I've spent here. But keep it s...

Re: upset recovery training schools
Hey, You can try Harv's Air. Good aerobatic training on a Citabria. They can fit a personnel training if you want to work on specified exercises. Both locations, Steinbach (uncontrolled) and St Andrews (controlled airport) have a plane available, but I'd recommend Steinbach. The most experience guys...

Hi,
At my school, we use the SPOT tracker, based on GPS localisation.
More information available here : http://findmespot.ca/shop/index.php?mai ... ucts_id=52
It works fine, and is used only for safety reasons during students' xcountries.
hope it helps,
Greg

Hi, I'm french, currently working on my CPL at Harv's... There's no international rate, the same one applies for everybody. Doing your ppl in one session is the most effective way to do. If you do that, I think you can count around 3 months to finish it, depending on the weather, your knowledge, you...

Hi, I'm actually doing my ppl at Steinbach. A little runway, some trees on the side, a little town where you won't be disturbe from your studies...Compared to St Andrews, I think it's the best choice for a fulltime student who wants to be a bush pilot ! I'm not sure you will have time to do your ppl...
