Re: Air Canada "haute cuisine" and incidence of Crew diarrhea?

Sometimes I poop early on a layover. Sometimes I poop a lot of times on a layover. I figure it's due to the crazy spicy and interesting food that I always eat on the layovers in Asia. This doesn't bother me, the toilets overseas almost all have the spray wash function 8) When I picture the food prep...

Re: Free Money Management Advice.

This is a conversation that needs to happen more often. As boring a topic as this is to learn, it's importance is so often underestimated. The basic concepts of financial planning are so straight forward, it's amazing that so few people even know the difference between a TFSA and an RRSP and how to ...

http://www.timescolonist.com/news/b-c/aircraft-suspected-as-feces-rain-from-sky-across-b-c-1.23324925 VANCOUVER — Susan Allan and her son were driving through Kelowna’s downtown core after coming back from Peachland on a mild afternoon with her sunroof down — but stopping at a red light would change...

Re: Air Canada Medical

Just did the pre-employment medical. It's pretty standard actually. I had a restriction to wear glasses but the AC eye test device decided that I had 20/20 without glasses. So I wouldn't say it's more restrictive than most civil aviation medicals. I actually asked the doc a few questions about the p...

Re: Air Georgian employee travel benefits.

The passes are great, I use them all the time. Unfortunately we are C4 priority which means you're usually at the very bottom of the list. Our buddy passes require the employee to escort the 'buddy' so you have to fly the same itinerary.

Re: Jazz Hatters

I had the privilege of wearing an oxygen mask with a beard while flying a corporate machine. It fit just fine, the amount of force the back straps apply to your head combined with the pressure from O2 being dispensed is probably sufficient for deep sea diving. I think if a beard is kept neatly trimm...

Re: Pathetic Pearson Airport

I've seen my fair share of third world airports that offer third world service.
YYZ still pisses me off every time, I think largely because the airport improvement taxes I alone have paid this year from commuting could probably fund a whole new escalator.

Re: Thinking about stepping away from the game for a bit

In Canada federally regulated employers (aviation) are required to allow you to take up to 39 weeks of leave after the birth of a child. This leave has to be within 52 weeks of the birth and cannot be split up. In terms of EI, that's kind of separate, as a couple you are allowed a certain amount tha...

Re: Commuting and Fees (Taxes, etc)

My last trip home got complicated, had to switch carriers, take transit twice, it was a nightmare and cost about $100. I'm getting sick of this game and seriously can't believe we have to pay the airport tax. I'd be happy to hear more about this law suit in progress. Our airports are way too expensi...

Re: Tipping your shuttle drivers

Tipping culture drives me crazy, even when I worked a job where I got tips I hated the whole idea of it. Provide amazing service and get no tip, then provide terrible service and get a huge tip. It made me pull my hair out. We get no allowance and you can tell. Shuttle drivers don't care about our c...

Costco is pretty great. Compares different agencies, free second driver.
You'll notice big differences in price based on how many weekdays you book, weekends are a steal though.
If I'm overseas where Costco doesn't work I go with hotwire.

VIH flies a Challenger and a Hawker last time I checked. Top aces fly out of YYJ a fair bit on the Westwind and the Alpha jets, I'm not sure if those pilots are technically based in Victoria or not though There is a privately owned Citation XL operated by Lefevre & co. Viking/Pacific Sky also have p...

Maybe the new ad came up because they're hoping to attract some recently (or soon to be) laid off oil patch pilots.

Skies magazine has a great column to refresh your approach plate interpretation and knowledge base. This is by no means an all encompassing 'course' or anything, just something easy on the brain and useful for staying current.

Is the AC medical department against all 'drugs'?
I take a low dose steroid to control asthma, TC says it's fine. Should I be worried when/if big red ever calls?

Day in the life of a citation XL

First I must apologize for my absence. I spent some time overseas where cameras are forbidden, maybe someday I'll be brave and share some of those experiences here!
For now though I hope you enjoy the view from inside a citation XL based on the west coast :)

Re: F.O.D damage question

I'm not sure that birds count as F.O.D. Don't know what we picked up, but the #3 engine on our Dash 7 was acting weird when we tried to leave Kandahar last year. Taxied off the runway, called maintenance. They found tons of bent compressor blades. It was hard to believe that an engine inlet nearly 1...

It's not even true. No cash up front just a co-signed loan. You pay the interest- they pay you back for said interest. Pro rated, one year, and it doesn't cover the full cost of training.
The pay for my first two months (as a co-pilot) was more than the entire bond just to put things in perspective.
