For commercial ops I dont know.
Yea, 406 is "better" but its definately not worth the cost. There may still be a change, read the front page article in the September issue of COPA flight.

Re: Speaking French on the radio
And the same is expected backwards. A French speaking pilot is (IMHO) expected to communicate in English if flying into an ATF in Manitoba. If a pilot cant, just think of it as flying a circuit with a nordo/ronly aircraft. Interesting solution. "If they don't understand me or I can't underst...

Re: 406 ELTs
All 406s require a panel switch. Talk with the AMO that'd be installing it. Though odds are he'll tell you the same as they told me. The same that's been said around here. With a few exceptions, you have two years to equip the 406. So the cheaper bet might be simply to do the re-cert. Assuming your ...

Re: Speaking French on the radio
All I am trying to get at is "AIRMANSHIP" for the same reason I don't blast people on a ramp when I am taxiing away, let planes go ahead of me when I am not in a rush, and just plain old think of others out there doing the same job that I am doing. Common courtesy would tell me if I was speaking fr...

Re: Speaking French on the radio
It is. My point was anyone trying to blame language for safety, has issues. Oh yeah? Have you read some of the stories on this thread yet? Are you comfortable with people saying they have no clue what another pilot is saying, or that some aircraft in your circuit pattern cannot communicate with you...

Re: Speaking French on the radio
Maybe the problem isnt with a "language barrier" with the pilots. Maybe the problem lies with certain Canadian citizens whom refuse to learn the other official language of their country ;) I thought communication was all about safety, and not about politics and official languages. It is. My point w...

Re: Speaking French on the radio
A professionnal pilot trying to get his point in English to a French Speaking PPL is inneficient and dangerous. Depends on the situation. A 'professional pilot' landing at a small French airport should be able to communicate in French. (I think you mentioned this earlier) If the situation is at a l...

Re: Speaking French on the radio
If you have comms, why not use it and be efficient at it. No reason to fly NORDO with a functionning radio. But that's airmanship... Incidents have happenned when 2 aircraft came in with functionnign radio and almost collided because they wouldn't speak to the other guy in English/French. Im not sa...

Re: Speaking French on the radio
Simple. Because we can. I switch to french as soon as I cross the ottawa river. I do it for the same reason I choose "french" whenever I use an ATM machine, when I call the FSS, when I buy a DVD, when being given company training/manuals or when I fly as a pax on Air Canada. Yes I do understand jus...

Re: Speaking French on the radio
The way I see it, if an airline pilot is flying into several different airports all over the world, in countries which have various official languages, theres no expectation for said pilot to learn the language(s). He(she) can communicate with ATC over the radio. That you cant understand ATC/other p...

Give PSA a try. www.psains.com Though Im with COPA/Marsh myself. To be honest though, for someone with about 100hrs TT, insuring a 150 with a hull value of 40,000 dollars, paying 1950 doesnt sound too absurd. My insurance costs me 1400 on a hull value of 32,000. I think, if you dont like the expensi...

Actually I have no problems with the instructors at the club. Nor the instructors at other airports I fly to. Nor do I with pilots I've not met. What I do have a "problem" with, are the pilots who fall under one of two categories: A) Complain [edit] on an anonymous online forum [/edit] about the lac...

Unless I missed something, the Lear did nothing when he found out he was on a collision course with the 172.IFRATC wrote:In my opinion the Lear did nothing wrong except maybe wait to long to take action against conflicting traffic.

Re: Cessna 172 cuts off Lear 60 at YQA Muskoka . . on purpose .
Of course, since it's an airport with an MF, any NORDO/RONLY aircraft would have called the FSS as required and FSS would have advised the inbound Lear of the NORDO/RONLY traffic about to depart. But you knew that... Of course, since this could ONLY occur in an MF, and not an ATF. But you knew that...

Re: Personal aircraft survival kits
Making your own is probably best. That way you know exactly whats in the kit, you packed it yourself (aka: if shit hits the fan, you only have yourself to blame), and at the same time, packing it yourself allows you to personalize it to your needs, your aircraft, your flying environment, and the sea...

doing the straight in was most likely the safest option. Yes. Doing a straight in going opposite to the traffic, IMO, not so much. What would have happened if a NORDO/RONLY or even another aircraft was on the runway getting ready to take off? What if one had just taken off? The Lear driver may have...

How the heck is FSS stated "somebody is going to have to give way" an instruction?? It's a statement. It's advising that there is a collision imminent. It's being "proactive". At least the FSS guy had the balls to speak up not like the chimps driving the 2 airplanes! :smt014 FSS is required to advi...
