Re: 2020 Hiring

That is a weird post ^. You trying to sound like Yoda? A pilot must be one with the market force? Alot of your post explains details that are simply not true or not true yet I suppose. You've made huge leaps in what you think is going to happen and what has actually been stated. 30 tails to Swoop? ...

Re: Swoop Terrain Warning

People need to understand that pretty much nobody at Swoop these days spent a single hour flying a WJ aircraft with WJ crews from WJ training/indoc. The results are night and day. Swoop is now just filled with low time people willing to slave themselves out and jump the queue or the loser cast-offs ...

Re: One List

See the above post about whipsaw by Gerry Schwartz, if I were an Encore pilot and the WJ pilots vote no again, when management comes to me and says, “how much to operate 50 76 seat jets?” Um, I’ll do it for my current pay, thanks! This won’t affect me in the grand scheme of things, I just can’t bel...

Re: Encore take home pay?

Not so secretive actually. You can find all the payscales in one thread on this site from a year or so ago. I hate to be the guy that's says to go search for it but in this case it's such a large amount of info to continually re-type and answer the same questions over and over. I'd say most people h...

Re: Will JAZZ pilots have a higher seniority vs Encore?

Yes I believe Jazz does that but they started doing that after I left. It is not an ALPA thing, it's a Jazz ALPA thing. Each MEC can run things how they want to and I guess this is one example. And besides like you said it's only affecting seniority within your class. I believe they wanted to recogn...

Re: WestJet Future Fleet Plans

You are correct in a sense. The chart assumes returning every leased aircraft as they come up. They've already decided to keep a few that came up recently. Not much as far as retirements go being such a young group. Real growth is coming from the soon to be NPA rules but the biggest factor will be w...

An airline pilot extolling the virtues of free coffee. The bottom of this barrel must be near.

Thanks for the laugh.
Nope just extolling the virtues of GOOD free coffee. Maybe I'm just a cup half full kind of person...pun intended.

Re: Perks of working for West Jet

Honestly? Unlimited McDonalds coffee at work. Not joking. I no longer have to pay for coffee. For travel perks I love the ability to buy confirmed seats at 50% off. I'm not always comfortable flying standby to go on vacation. My last shop didn't have that. Good people, amazing training...best flying...

Re: Cargo jet vs encore

Encore means a job at WJ in a couple years. Look at the CJ wages and look at the Encore wages and finally WJ wages...it is in fact a simple decision. CJ is only secure until another cheaper cargo outfit gets the contract. I'd always aim to work for the mothership, especially one that's printing mone...

Re: Encore requirements 2017

No minimum time at Encore required. Average tenure before flow through so far has been roughly 2.5yrs. That's bloody fast as far as I'm concerned. I spent 4yrs at Jazz and they went by just like that and when it was done I wasn't looking at a guarranteed job at mainline.

Re: Cargo jet vs encore

Not even a choice to me really. The allure of big jet initially can be tempting but as far as I'm concerned the pay progression at CJ is just not there. Plus the cargo world is just one contract away from moving over to the competition. I'd much rather work directly for the mothership, in this case ...

Short field takeoff, no catapults on that carrier. Also as indicated above it's part of the bird strike countermeasures system (BSCMS)

Re: Better than expected 3rd quarter profit

Not quite, most of the capacity growth comes from the WB operation. It's making money, simple as that and they've stated this. Mainline growth will come mostly from wide bodies. Encore growth is also a nice boost for stand alone profit as well as network feed.

Re: Intersection take offs with Encore's Q400

You're correct, the frost was off base and geared more towards the unstable approach and where do you draw the line for shortcuts. Yes I use reduced thrust, that's a company policy and in the COM/AOM and all the takeoff data is calculated using reduced thrust, full length or intersection. It is not...

Just a little frost right? It'll fly! Now that's way off base. We're not talking about breaking rules and winging it while yelling "yeehaw!" We're talking about working entirely within the rules using approved procedures backed up by proper performance calculations. I think I hit the nail in the he...

Yes, I'm that guy, on time performance is on my list but it's last, safety is first and I'll always opt for the safest choice. I'm also the guy that if ATC offers a short final and we're a bit high but we'll have to be vectored behind traffic further out, I'll opt for the vector as opposed to a les...
