Re: Encore Hiring 250 hrs
Here’s the thing with Encore - personally I think it’s a great place to start or progress or even stay (if airline flying is your desire). It’s a great place to learn, grow your experience and has many opportunities for those that want to do more or expand into training departments etc. In addition ...

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze
Hi
This has nothing to do with Onex. It’s all about the virus and what effects it’s having across the world and how that effects air travel. We would be doing the same if Onex wasn’t the new owner in order to take care of the business.
Cheers

Re: 2020 Hiring
Hi! 3 courses in March. Calls are going out all the time as we try and give as much notice as possible - but sometimes a reference or background check holds us up a little. Don’t be shy to reach out to the recruitment team if you have any questions but typically it takes 3 weeks before you hear any...

Re: Westjet ad.
Hi To again, simply quote before you start down the slag path: “It's only gonna get worse with flow being reduced and all the folk leaving for AC” If it’s spin then where are the numbers from Encore? If you can’t post facts then I dare say the pot is calling the kettle black with reference to spin? ...

Hi Guilden I rarely get involved in the mud here but I’ll bite today! In this day and age of collective agreements - I have to ask where on earth you came up with that one (about being penalized/frozen) for not taking an upgrade? Good grief. I’ll also bite on the schedules - care to shed some light ...

Re: 2020 Hiring
Dave do you see and backfilling of CA spots in YVR for 2020? Hi Good Question! I think (and this is only me) not based on any other internal knowledge - at some point they have to backfill in order to maintain the 737 base size. (Widebody growth will be the catalyst) go take a look at the standing ...

Re: 2020 Hiring
Numbers released for 2020 had 100+ upgrades and those numbers probably don’t account for the junior captains leaving for AC. Either way it’s going to be difficult to attract/retain quality OTS candidates. An one-off year probably won’t make much of difference with those kind of numbers long term. T...

Re: One List is Back!!
Hi I wouldn’t categorize it as “boasting”. For a guy who has gone through a couple layoffs and career “stalls” in my career I know well how it works. I do know that this place believes in methodical growth - unlike the years of throw every piece of metal at things. Time will tell, but let’s be clear...

Re: One List is Back!!
Future so bright now that even wj managements family members have resumes at AC..... Hi Thor That def goes both ways (as I look at the resumes daily). I don’t think it honestly says much other than it proving people want to make choices when the decision comes. Might as well hedge your bets so to s...

Re: One List is Back!!
Hi FlyAlberta! I get it might not be exact dollars but my understanding is it’s $28,800 over 24 months. This keeps you topped up until you hit step 3 pay after 2 years. Still a fantastic uplift vs starting back at starting WJ wage sorry to mislead by saying “no pay cut”. I guess I should have said ...

Re: One List is Back!!
Super happy for you guys! It’s great to take the lead on this sort of arrangement in Canada. Once hired - no more interviews, “almost” no more pay cut to transfer to WJ (28,800 over 24 months until you hit step 3 pay after 2 years) It’s pretty sweet for a pilot starting at WJE. I’ve come to understa...

Re: Hiring process - next steps
Thanks for the question. Indeed we are focused on the ones who meet the minimums but that doesn’t mean we aren’t stopping any flightpath interviews. So look at it as - no news is good news. With the amount of hiring going on for 2020 (288 WJ and taking as much flow as we can from Encore) we need to ...

Re: 2020 Hiring
Hi Dan, I think it's been no secret it's been a couple tough years here at WJ. Some I'm sure left for faster financial gain, some left for getting a base in their desired city faster (ie Vancouver). Some left in hopes of a quick upgrade and some left because their third wife was leaving them with $2...

Re: 2020 Hiring
Typically half seem to upgrade vs the final hiring number. Sometimes it’s just a hair more, sometimes a hair less but a good average is half (a mix of 737 and Dreamliner). The hiring is due to a number of things - primarily fatigue and duty rules, reserve, growth (wide body and some 737), some attri...

Hi there
We will take as many as they can give us!
With that hiring will be robust at Encore as well.
Take care

2020 Hiring
Just a quick update for the 2020 numbers. (This is purely WestJet mainline) 288 new hires with roughly courses of between 16 and 12 with some being 20. 180 to be brought onboard before June. If anyone in the Toronto area wants more detail - we have an open house coming up in early November at spectr...

I'm also blown away that 1500 hrs is a 703 captain these days, and with enough time in the seat to be looking elsewhere. Hi all, Indeed the “low time” is a sign of the times! The total time is definitely coming down in all areas and for all companies in the industry and it’s really nothing to see a...

Re: OTS WesJet Mainline FO
Hi, Scott is prepping a com with the latest forecast. 2 classes of ten remaining for this year (Oct 21 and Nov4) for WestJet. I just did the class averages and we are just over 4100 hrs tt for WestJet classes ytd. As for 2020 - it’s going to be very very busy. I’ll let Scott introduce the numbers to...
