With Encore you could hold YYC right away or within a few months.

Re: Swoop

Open your eyes and look around. It happens everywhere in every industry in every economy. Time to let it go. Why? This fatalist attitude bothers me. Just because it happens elsewhere doesn’t mean everyone should just roll over and forget about it. People in North America have forgotten how to prote...

Re: Use of APU

Fire-test trick doesn't always work either, but it helps. Leaving the power switch on for as long as possible before starting helps too. In the summer the APUs are generally fine, it's the winter when they get clogged up with deice fluid that causes most issues.

Re: ONEX plans

Maybe someone at onex will knock some sense into the higher ups. Encore also continues to bleed pilots at a steady rate, and pretty soon will need to start shrinking the schedule unless there are some incentives provided soon to get people to stick around. Or they could continue to ride all the curr...

Re: Updates on one - list.

It’s not back the way it was, my impression is they are just maintaining the list, really just for ‘housekeeping’ purposes. Nothing is finalized or in force yet.

Re: A "NEW" One List?

Is there any other airline precedent for the 'bump and flush'? I have a hard time seeing any company agree to that. Given hard times necessitating lay offs, the last thing they would want is to trigger all the expense of the sudden extra training required. Just playing devil's advocate here...

Re: One list

Except that flow language was in the LOA. Which is now toast. So all there is now is a ‘commitment’ from the company to maintain it, but nothing official anymore. It’s more than shameful Encore became a bargaining chip for a lot of disgruntled mainline pilots, or those who couldn’t even be bothered ...

Re: One list

Voting no will just make Swoop more attractive (if it could be at all). Instead of letting it fizzle out and squashing it like a bug, Swoop will grow to be a bigger thorn in your side. But I guess it's all about me me me again... unity can go fly a kite.

Just don’t forget, that ‘200k’ is always, ‘just down the road’. And management is laughing all the way to the bank as they keep dragging that carrot by a string.

HA. It's true, there's a TA coming. But no one will see it for a couple of weeks. Until then it's all wishful thinking.

Re: Hiring outlook

The FOs might be on easy-street right now, but the CAs are ridden hard and put away wet. And "a lot defer flow" is a hell of a stretch. A few involved in training at the most. Also: There have also been a few incidents of folks applying for Encore, but then getting asked if they'd be interested in m...

A single vane failure did not bring down an aircraft.

Yes but obviously it was a big hole in the swiss cheese that shouldn't have been there.

Re: Hiring outlook

My best guess is there is a glut of FOs they are waiting to meet the matrix for upgrade. Captains are in short supply and they are the ones flowing to mainline as well. I’m surprised they aren’t hiring more DECs (though maybe there are none left).

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future

Coupled with the apparent hypocrisy of WJ/Encore pilots being absolved of "lowering the bar," makes for one messy and convoluted double standard. I don't know about hypocrisy on this board, but to be fair most pilots at Encore do not want to support the conditions at Swoop. Like said before, there ...

Everyone is ignoring the bait about experience, but obviously, yes, it is SOP to increase to 1020/max in severe ice. Doesn’t work all that well always, or it comes off unevenly.

Re: Encore contract negotiations

Droptanks your post is confusing. You seem to think Flow and the One List are 'kinda the same thing', then proceed to explain that they are not. They are not the same at all. And it is far from a done deal. Flow is just hiring. The company can hire from wherever. Those who flowed before the new cont...

I assume they are having trouble holding on to instructors like most places around the country, and they have to prioritize. Really, they are going back to how they did it before (minus the floats, which is the real sad part). Just ask to do as much hood and sim time as you can throughout your time ...

Re: Encore contract negotiations

Flow and the one list are separate issues. They can still pick a flow rate, while making seniority worth zip. I would guess the main reasons for the delay are the company lawyers, leverage with encore bargaining, and also the difficulty it creates in recruiting for Mainline and Swoop. Harder to find...

Re: Thoughts - Cadet Pilot Trends

I often wondered how much of a factor insurance was in the mix. Do rates skyrocket with more 250 hr FOs? Or is it a question of total time in the cockpit to an insurance company?
