Re: DC-3 "Crash" Yellowknife

Saw the same thing on an A26 when I was apprenticing with Airspray. Pilot tried to feather an engine due loss of oil pressure but it kept coming out of feather because the button didn't pop out and he didn't know to pull it out once the prop was feathered. He couldn't maintain altitude with the wind...

Re: Calm Air Interviews

Calm Air has had the bond fish4life described since the early 1980s at least; probably longer. Back then it was 10K for the Hawker, 5K for the King Air.

Re: Optimizing your CPL training

Make sure you get the required night time for your ATPL and since you have a time share and not renting by the hour try and get 150 PIC that way you can qualify for an In Command Under Supervsion program if the opportunity comes along.

MAF Australia has an STC to put -34s on a 200 and up the gross to 12500. As far as I know the upgross on the 200 is not available anywhere else

Trey kule; you are right that it wasn’t safety but political pressure that brought the approach ban about. I was at the NATA (Northern Air Transportation Association) meeting when the ban was the topic du jour. TC was represented by around a dozen people if I remember right, from the top man on down...

Applied just before Christmas; got it mid Feb. Now for the best part; carried the paper one for 35 years, lost the new one in a week. #*##!!!

Guess we'll see if $35 will get you a replacement.

Re: Globe&Mail: Lives Could Have Already Been Saved

I don’t think banning SVFR is the answer. If that was the case we would have to wait for 1000’/3 miles to depart a control zone. Would you want to delay/cancel a trip when the ceiling is 800’ with unlimited vis underneath? SVFR requirements need to be reevaluated though. The SVFR rules should not ha...

Here's a couple of icing stories that got my attention when they happened. Did a run up on a 402 on a foggy moist 0/-1 day in YWG. No ice on the aircraft prior to the runup; after the runup the props had 1/4 in of ice on them. A co worker was flying a Caravan on skeds on another close to freezing da...

This are the details on the Gillam Shamattawa DC 3 as I heard them. The DC3 was enroute Gillam - Shamattawa with a load of fuel in a bladder. Lost an engine and couldn't maintain (there might have been icing involved, can't remember all the details). When they landed (crashed) the tail swung around ...

I have to disagree on your last statement Waldo, that this will only affect operators without SOP's that don't understand visual reference. This will affect even those companies that play by the rules. In order to fly to mins under the new ban we will have to equip our Twin Otters with flight direct...

Go to TC's site and look up the proposed changes in the NPA section of the CARS. They mean fairly major changes. Some of the changes are good; for instance, if you're not equipped with an autopilot you'll have to do a pilot monitored approach. Some of the other changes are: Anyone that wants to do a...
