Re: PWA vs CP Air merger
All true. And looking for precedent in the Feller Award (largely viewed as one of the most flawed single arbitrator awards ever written) won’t carry much weight in 2024. There are many decisions issued post-2010 that encapsulate likely outcomes. I am going to go out on a limb and predict an award f...

Re: PWA vs CP Air merger
Full rebid might be the only fair way considering the huge disparity in upgrade times. Can’t expect a year 10 WJ FO to fly with a year 3 Sunwing captain who gets to keep their seat. Won’t happen. It will very likely happen. And if anyone is telling you differently, they are doing you a huge disserv...

Re: PWA vs CP Air merger
Westjet ALPA seems intent on going to war with Sunwing pilots, and "winning" the merger, even if it means shooting themselves in the foot during the process. They can't even be bothered to consider adopting parts of the Sunwing contract that are better than their own, because all of their resources...

Re: PWA vs CP Air merger
Actually both merger committees should have read them twice by now. The closer the two committees stick to rational and valid arguments, the better off everyone will be. Emotional irrelevant arguments just lead to poor outcomes. Bede I assume you are looking for bathroom reading and not on the merg...

Re: PWA vs CP Air merger
Long shot, but does anyone happen to have a copy of the seniority list integration arbitration award from the PWA vs CP Air merger? Nordair and EPA merger would be helpful too. Thanks! Those are some pretty old precedents to use in an attempt to screw sunwing pilots... Actually both merger committe...

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
This has been debunked countless times. You have a much better shot of getting hired if you come from OTS, as is evidenced by this whole situation. Haha dude you have no idea what you’re talking about. If you quit Jazz, you don’t end up in the OTS pool. You end up in a pool called “OTS but they hav...

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
Well by that same logic, tell that to Jazz pilots with kids and mortgages who were contractually supposed to flow in 2022 and 2023 who have been held behind while OTS hires with their wet 737 ratings or 703 command time are now senior to us as we continue to “protect the AC network”. You can absolu...

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
So then grieve! But don’t come after other pilots seniority, because the only thing that does is hurt your fellow pilots. Who will then probably always look at you with a sour taste in their mouth. It is NOT their fault they got hired before you. If you think the best course of action is to displac...

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
Proves my point even further. Canadian pilots became AC pilots when they merged. AC is not merging with Jazz, it's no different than a pilot coming from WJ or Flair. Your start date is the day you accrue seniority. Look, if you want to work at AC so badly, you can get there much faster through port...

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
This entire argument is predicated on the assumption that it was AC who didn’t honor the 60% figure. What if it was Jazz who put a stop to it, so they actually had pilots to fly their airplanes? (The more likely scenario.) in that case, why would the pilots have any recourse against AC whatsoever? ...

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
That was a merger between two airlines. You’re asking for seniority at an airline you don’t work at, what planet are you on man? The planet where a CDN pilot showed up for his first day at AC with seniority. This countered your point. It’s unlikely for jazz but not impossible. Proves my point even ...

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
Imagine if every RJ pilot currently flying the airplane at Jazz had been hired to fly the airplane at AC. Think about that…because you own it. Eventually the airplanes would almost assuradly have been operated by a regional carrier, but not after first depressing wages and working conditions for a ...

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
AC cannot unilaterally change the Pilots Seniority list and a Grievance between ALPA Jazz and Jazz is absolutely not going to having any influence. Delusional thinking would be a compliment! If you think a Pilot is going to sit still and let someone (anyone) shuffle this list, without a fight, is n...

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
We watched our seniority drop from the sidelines, but like I said, seniority solution is unlikely In order to have seniority somewhere, one must first be employed there. Postmaster, Pretty sure you were Jazz before going over on PML 1.0, imagine you didn’t go in order of seniority for a second, let...

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
Why just the 285 that actually got hired and not the ones that didn't? Those that make up the 37% that went to AC were certainly affected, but I'd say the missing 23% that didn't and are still stuck at Jazz are more negatively impacted. My understanding is, and I could be wrong, that it isn't just ...

Re: Pilot Employment Beyond Age 65
There is a practical reality now that the US Senate vetoed a change to Age 67 (which is the single impediment making Age 65+ a challenge for Jazz). Post Age 65 pilots cannot fly to the US. They cannot transit US airspace when flying between CDN stations. A US alternate cannot be used on a flight pl...

Re: Pilot Employment Beyond Age 65
I’m still baffled by this, did the majority of the pilot group want this? Did the MEC just take it upon themselves? Was there time pressure? That’s how they justified no vote on the Sky deal. Would you rather the 10 or 15 guys that are pushing for this go to the labour board and the tribunal rule i...
