Re: CATSA DID SOMETHING RIGHT!!

Not exactly, there was a case some years ago south of the border where a handgun in the luggage hold discharged during loading or unloading and sent a round into the passenger cabin, I think it passed through a seat and into an overhead bin. Pure luck there was no one in the seat at the time. So I ...

Re: Trikes in Canada?

Great fun, just make sure your brain makes the switch to "push control away, houses get smaller". I've talked to a few trikers who have had students used to conventional stick/yoke flying who get that confused for a split second. Makes for an exciting moment.

Re: Amazing photos - pilot survives impact with runway . . .

Looking at the pictures the crash is just about perfect, almost straight on so little twisting and no tumbling, nose absorbed about as much energy as it could, canopy popped up and away so no head strike, and the plane rolled onto its back instead of tipping over. Must be hard to fly with that many ...

Panel mount Marine VHF

I have a float plane project coming up and I am interested in being able to talk to boats and co-ordinate activities. Does anyone have knowledge of any panel mount marine VHF radios and how they would be licensed in Canada?

How does this chopper take-off? It looks like the blade is touching the overhang and there is no space to spin up let alone launch?

It is also great that it syncs with the iPhone, then you always have your logbook handy in case you are renting and need to show currency.

Re: Peninsulair locked out at CYHM by Tradeport!

Their mission is to generate revenue. And there lies the problem. When TC handed over management or ownership of these airports it should have been with a mandate to RUN AN AIRPORT not to make money, not to lease land for shopping malls, not to cater only to airlines or heavy cargo ops. These airpo...

Re: Electric or OIL?

Go electric but if you have the right terrain go for a closed loop, 2-stage (not DX), vertical bore, geothermal heat pump. Major savings with higher costs up front. You can save something like up to 60% over your current total heating/cooling budget. The technology has come a long way so be careful ...

Re: 406MHz ELTs

Finally.. Someone mentioned that when SPOT sends it's "SOS" signal that you dont know if the signal was received by anyone... well, the same is true of current 121.5 ELTs and the same is true of the new 406 ELTs. Unless the new ELTs have built-in satellite phones that Im not aware of :D Actually al...

Re: 406MHz ELTs

Arguing that the 121.5 may or may not work better than the 406 is academic. The system is no longer going to be equipped to handle 121.5 signals except for close range homing. The satellites required to keep that capability are wearing out, getting old, and are not going to be replaced. The ability ...

Re: 406MHz ELTs

Again, this is from the chart linked above ... 406 1-3 nm (2-5 km) accuracy on average. Position calculated by Doppler shift analysis. Position information on first satellite pass. Better than 300 feet accuracy with GPS equipped beacons. GPS position processed with initial alert, near instantaneous...

Re: Immitation as Flattery

IANAL, but its actually pretty straightforward infringement. You probably have two cases. One for the website copy (HTML) and a second for the photographs. Standard damages for unauthorized use of photographs or artwork in a commercial environment is triple damages. So if you originally charge $200 ...

Just bought a new Toronto VNC. A quick review shows everything in the right place. NavCanada really should get a proverbial smacking for this one. Completely unacceptable to have charts unavailable for ANY reason. Let alone for months for some of the charts.

One other think you are just about guaranteed to see in Met is icing. Know the progression of a warm front, how to figure out what precip is where in the cross section of the front (ie freezing rain here, snow here, rain here, etc.). If you can work through the ACWM workbook the Met on the CPL will ...

Re: Laptop to TV

Most laptops have a mode button somewhere which switches between internal screen, projector, and both. Look for a key that shows two rectangles stacked on top of each other. On the Lenovo/IBM laptops it is usually a blue label meaning you need to press the fn key at the same time.
