Re: Air Tindi Crash near Lutsel K'e
With that much THC in his blood, would he have been smoking just before takeoff? Or was it just 3 straight days of getting high before the flight? 10 times the limit seems to me to be pretty excessive consumption, and you would think someone would have noticed the state he was in, unless he was chro...

Re: Canadian North fires boozing Dash 8 pilot
The pilot, detained by the RCMP in Qikiqtarjuaq May 31 after flying a De Havilland Dash 8 passenger aircraft into the community from Iqaluit, faces a possible criminal investigation for consuming alcohol while operating an aircraft, a Transport Canada incident report said June 4. It would appear he...

Re: Float pilot and new boat regs?
Well, that's even more disappointing. I will be sure not to get one, in that case. My boat doesn't have a motor anyway, so I can be as drunk as a lord the whole time I'm on the water, which is how I like it. Only if you are at anchor for the night, with a bed and pillow for each person, an approved...

Re: Float pilot and new boat regs?
I'm resurrecting this old thread because I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this. We just bought a Husky on amphibs and we were wondering if (in Ontario) you require a Pleasure Card Operator's Card to operate a float plane on the water? Blue skies! No, you do not require a pleasure craf...

Probably way out of rig flight controls, and a gear door or three hanging open in the wind.
It's not uncommon to gain more than 10 kts after rigging properly.

Re: PC-12 off runway in YTS
Single engine flying is here to stay and has been around since 1903 and well accepted. However, Doc seems to feel that if you takeoff in a single when the weather is below limits for an approach, that it is dangerous. I would like to know why that is compared to departing in any other aircraft when...

Re: Flying while suspended for Impaired
Last I checked, DUI and DWI were in the Criminal Code of Canada, which makes it a federal law not provincial. However, your license can only be suspended for operating the vehicle for which that license is issued. If you drive a car and get a DUI, you get charged under the Criminal Code and your dr...

I'll just shake off the unprovoked condescension Cat, and ask with all sincerity Why was it bound to happen sooner or later? Is Bravo just another crummy operator? or Single Engine IFR a crummy way of doing business? Or is it just that Winter has finally hit, and anybody on moving rubber looks like...

Yah, 4200, you can't grease it on legally, but drop to 4000 and you can carrier land it circuit after circuit.

Then verify by pulling the prop back to just before the feather gate, as you will know right away if you are pulling back the RPM of the good engine ... How do you know whether or not you've pulled the correct prop control? Change in yaw? Listen carefully for a change in engine/propeller noise? LnS...

So something did happen? What did you see? Has the "incident" been reported to TC?gopher_killer wrote:I was at YYC all day that day and have a view of the field. What time did this happen and on which runway was the 'smaller jet' 'taking off'? I think I know the incident.

Re: Near miss in YYC?
This was released yesterday: October 16, 2011 - The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has released a report that raises concerns about the increasing number of runway safety incidents at U.S. airports. According to the GAO, the rate of runway incursions and operational errors in the termin...

You can tow gliders with a homebuilt? I would have thought you would need a certified plane.

Re: Georgina Bay Airways flips Found
Eye witnesses tell me that the aircraft was taking off toward the shore, and was running out of room. They say it stalled in as the plane was headed for rising terrain and the busy town.
I guess it's true that you can't make an airplane climb if the control is buried in your lap.

Oil Pumps. The oil pumps often get worn to the point that if they sit for a couple weeks without flying, they lose their prime and can't pick it up again unless they are pre-oiled. I think this problem is exacerbated with taildraggers. '48 Very true, even worse in the 65, 75 and 85. You can usually ...

Free advice: if you're going to bother installing a 430 into your aircraft, get an AMO to sign it off the paperwork so it can be used for IFR. Having an VFR-only 430 in the panel is just bizarre. And misleading. You sell the aircraft, the next owner/pilot might reasonably try to use it for IFR. I b...

Nice pics Hedley.
It looks like you have a static leak in the 421 though, your A/S's are off (5mph)
Also your EGT's probably need to be calibrated.

Re: C-GLFP Lancair IV-P down - destroyed - minor injuries .
I would say the only reason that aircraft survived as well as it did is because it is pressurized. That cabin is way stronger than a "normal" homebuilt. I have seen the wreck of an unpressurized Lancair after it did one bounce through a ditch, and it was COMPLETELY destroyed, with 6" deadly shards o...

Those stats sound about right, on average there is between 1 and 2 per day in Canada, and roughly 10-15 per day in the US.
