Re: Flight Schools near Vancouver
Most of the flight schools in lower mainland BC are now owned by foreign entities from West of British Columbia. There are not many independent flight schools anymore, but you can find a few. example: Classic Aviation in CYPK https://www.chinookhelicopters.com/airplane-training/ in CYXX is another ...

Re: What is the deal with all the French on the radio?
Some time ago I rented a C152 at the uncontrolled airfield in Finland for a local sightseeing flight. It was a weekend, so several other aircraft were flying around, and everyone was talking on the radio in Finnish. After I made the first call for a taxi (in English), EVERYONE switched to English...

Re: CYXX RNAV(GNSS) Z Approach
The current RNAV approach listed in the CAP and NOTAM'd off does not meet the ICAO standards and cannot be fixed. It will be withdrawn from the CAP and a new approach will be created. It is planned for March of 2015 at this time.

Re: Canadian Gulfstream G280 on Manx Register ???
Good for the owner, it's about time Canadian companies realize the international benefits available . More important, it's not certified yet in Canada - impossible to register. Another Canadian customer owns ready to go G280 sitting at the Gulfstream completion center and waiting for the TC certifi...

Re: POC for an individual?
vova_k - can you tell me what's involved? I obviously don't have a full time ops manager, chief pilot, etc, a management structure, a fatigue management plan, etc. First of all - I have a few other people taking care of everything connected to POC (I want to fly my planes, not to do paperwork). But...

Re: Pilot wrist watch, is it a good thing or BS
By the way, about a watch quality. I’m lucky enough to afford almost any toy I want, so I had (actually, still own just don’t wear anymore) 4 watches worth at least $100,000 total (including already mentioned Seamaster – it’s the cheapest one). ALL of them broke in first year, and I have not done an...

Re: Russia
As far as "I got a Russian ppl in 1997....but, well, it was not actually called a ppl", I really dont know how to comment. When the Alaska route was esablished in the early 2000's , the ppl was an issue because Russia had no equivalent license. It's not correct. First of all, real Russian PPL's exi...

Officially, you HAVE to call CBP (even with eAPIS), but do NOT have to fill out 178 formLloyd Christmas wrote:I would still fill out form 178, and make the appropriate fax and phone call to the CBP agent.

Re:
No need to fill out 178 form - eAPIS replaced it. Yes, just after introducing eAPIS some CBP officers were still requesting it, but now (after number of clarifications from CBP) everyone knows 178 form neither required nor expected...flyinphil wrote: 4. Fax it to them on a 178 form.

Re: TC's requirements for Turbine Aircraft
The above only applies if you will be carrying passengers in your new whiz-bang turbine powered and pressurized aircraft. Otherwise, a Private Licence with type rating will do the trick. OFD It's not true. One needs POC for all types of operations in turbine pressurized aircrafts, even if it's pers...

Re: Strange flight training letter??? Anyone else get one?
It's very well-known scam. I know the flight school owner who received very similar letter. After discussing all the details he got a check for whole flight training course in advance, but the check was (of course, mistakenly) few thousand dollars more than agreed price. So the owner was asked to se...
