Re: 4 Hurt in Plane Crash at Brampton
I don't believe 08/26 has vasi lights, and at 40' wide at night it looks like you're coming in high if you're used to wider runways.

Re: 4 Hurt in Plane Crash at Brampton
08 has a displaced threshold. There's a small tree at the railroad crossing/entrance to BFC maybe 300-400 ft from the end of the runway. They must have been low.

Re: Goderich - 1 fatality, 1 missing
There is an instructor with the same name in Brampton webpage. Can anyone verify its her? Yes, unfortunately it is: OPP have identified Veronica Draghici, a 36-year-old Brampton Flight Centre instructor, as one of two fatal victims in a plane crash that took place late Wednesday evening in the Gode...

Re: 60 story Condo planned for Buttonville . . .
Yeah, I agree with Truthteller, I almost smashed into another car while driving up Woodbine because I could not keep my eyes off the aircraft landing onto 33... The airport is dangerous. If the build another 60 story eyesore maybe that will keep my eyes on the traffic.

Re: Allowing a Passenger to Take the Controls
On the contrary, I want to let my passengers try to controls to the point I want them to feel what it's like sitting in the drivers seat. However I don't know what the legalities involved with this. Whether the flight school would allow this, or the insurance company would give you hassles over this...

Re: Allowing a Passenger to Take the Controls
Is there a regulation stating that I must sit on the left seat on a 172 if acting as PIC? Are you kidding?! No. Heck, you can sit in the back seat and log PIC if you want to. I know airline pilots that do that all the time. The only place you might find this sort of certified type-specific restrict...

Re: Putting a spouse on board
See if you can buy into a fractional share of an aircraft like a 172 or warrior (1/4 share of a $40K a/c) and do all your training in it. There are some class 1's that do freelance for $30-40 /hr. Much cheaper in the long run than paying $200+ ( instructor + a/c) from a flight school. You could save...

Re: Flight training VS headsets
is money an issue? for now yes it is, considering its going to cost 11k for the PPL. If it was not an issue I would buy a Bose X or something of the likes I think you should get the Bose X or Lightspeed Zulu. Even though they come close to $1000, they are well worth it if you plan to do a lot of re...

Re: Watch your fuel!!
It ain't just the students at CNC3... Bad airmanship; some people just can't wait to take off. A number of times had to overshoot and execute go around because they hopped onto the runway thinking they would make it even with an aircraft on short final...

Re: Overshooting on downwind side... dangerous
What actually happened was he lost sight of final and was a little disoriented and was instructed to overshoot (we could see him turn final but not lined up with the runway, the sun must of caught his eye); and obviously did the overshoot on the downwind side; I would say he blindly climbed up to ci...

Overshooting on downwind side... dangerous
Scary thing happened the other day. I was on downwind when someone was executing a go-around and instead of doing it on the upwind side, he did it on downwind. I saw him in the nick of time as he climbed past me. When i got back I saw the guy getting a talking to from an instructor but his comment w...

Re: Buying your own plane for the CPL - worth it?
Don't import an airplane unless you know what you are doing. You can easily get burned. +1 The cheapest I've seen someone spend on importing an aircraft was around $10,000, the most was around $45,000. One airplane was found upon its inspection to be beyond economical repair, so the fellow bought t...

Re: Buying your own plane for the CPL - worth it?
What do you think it would cost to buy a reasonable mid-time C182 or Cherokee 235/180 from the US, IFR equipped with a garmin GPS (430)? What would the import fees / and associated fees to bring it up to here be? I'm looking for something with some cross country comfort yet equipped to complete my I...

Re: Buying your own plane for the CPL - worth it?
The thing is I haven't got a clue about buying an airplane and to me 50K-80K sound perfectly reasonable but I guess there might be dishonest dealers or owner trying to dump stuff on the market and saying that they are in great condition while they are POS (not unlike buying a car). Typically how muc...

Re: Buying your own plane for the CPL - worth it?
Apex out in Buttonville has quite a few 172's for sale now. High time approx 8000-10000 hrs. Looks like they were used for flight training. Wondering if it's worth it to buy one ($50K-$80K) and fly for approx 500hrs and then sell it. They look well maintained. Is Apex reputable?
