Re: Cleared for an approach
"Cleared for an approach" means the pilot can conduct any published approach. Since contacts and visuals aren't published, you would still need ATC approval/clearance to conduct one.

Re: WG terminal, short AGAIN
And when compared to our short staffed TCU, the enroute does have it easy. That is not to say that they don't work hard and that their jobs are not difficult, but I doubt any of them will spend hours at a stretch working near or at their maximum capacity with aircraft separated by the bare minimum ...

Re: WG terminal, short AGAIN
Careful there bud with your comment about "cushy life in the enroute" There is one reason and one reason only why more enroute controllers don't transfer to work in Winnipeg Terminal and it has nothing to do with the "complexity" or "difficulty". However, you are very short staffed and I agree that ...

Re: Medevac OR Medevac??
For all of you abusing the system (and justifying it by saying no one dies if I jump the queue) go right ahead. I delay MEDEVACs all the time...for other MEDEVACs. Who knows, maybe the MEDEVAC I delayed for you is an actual MEDEVAC (ie. requires priority ATS handling) and the patient on board who is...

Re: High-end RNP: flying through a soda straw
Sometimes the short gate RNP doesn't work. I for one love it and will clear you for it anytime I can. However, in the last couple of years, I have lost count of the number of agitated responses from Westjet pilots when the short gate isn't available. I sure hope there aren't that many Westjet pilots...

Re: Man up.
Really? A pot-shot at my education? (Or lack therof, heh-heh.) Too funny. But it's okay for you to take a pot shot at someone's career if they aren't a pilot? :) I think you need to re-think your reasons for participating in this forum. Anyone not flight crew should not be here? You essentially sai...

Re: Man up."
Lol. If that's the best you can come back with, rethink the "fairly well educated" part of your last post. :) Some of my best friends are pilots. I'm not saying they are bad people, just that their career and sometimes their attitude makes it difficult to have a long term relationship with them. Sig...

The female pilots are no better than their male counterparts...in some ways they're worse.

I hope the comments aren't reflective of the majority of pilots. No wonder you are "pressured into flying below limits". Doesn't sound like it's the companies you work for that are doing the pressuring though.

Re: If you have thought about ATC, but the no income stopped
Take the big paycheques out of ATC and how many people here would still have applied for and still be working at this for say $30,000- $40,000 a year? Almost every post here of certified controllers has the same underlying tone of how much money they make, how great their pensions are etc. Good luc...

Re: "Arrange flight to cross..."
No worries man. ARR/DEP, low level enroute, and high level enroute are all different. (not to mention oceanic versus domestic.)
Just didn't want pilots thinking they had to ask ATC if they were to hold everytime we issue crossing times.

Re: "Arrange flight to cross..."
Ummm NO. If I tell an aircraft to cross a fix at a given time, eg. meter time at a bedpost fix, if they are unable they ARE to enter a hold. They are then to adjust their hold so as to depart the fix inbound at there given time. If the fix has a published hold then the PH is executed. If not, a sta...

But of course on AvCanada, its just a bunch of controllers bitching, not a bunch of controllers that are tired of explaining to pilots who are bitching on the frequency asking why they can't do what they want, when one aircraft is holding everyone else up.

Re: Fly your IFR route as cleared
Exactly. In fact, if you are /S and are not yet in range of for example YQT, we should be giving you a heading to fly until you are able direct on your own. If we don't, just ask for one.

Re: Fly your IFR route as cleared
Thanks, but I knew for the airways. I was wondering off airways. But I guess on Radar it doesn't make a difference from what I understand? You need to maintain 5NM so if you clear me direct YQT for example, you'll keep an eye on me and that would be the end? Direct point to point using standard equ...

Re: Question for the YMM FSS
On principle? LOL I think you'd be hard pressed to find an FSS who wouldn't accept some retraining for a 50-100% pay raise and reduced hours. But my question remains... how is actually working there? I don't think it would be a 50% - 100% pay raise. Most FSS base salary is 50K-75K ish. Definately a...

Perimeter 920 500nm north of winnipeg They forget to use their full call sign in their radio calls i.e. "920 500nm north of winnipeg" Hence the Navcanada letter that every one recived about a month ago Actually that letter had more to do with JZA flight crew not using th...

Re: Pilotos... if you're asked something by ATC, answer safely..
I think the message here is that when performance is in question and it will take more than 2 seconds to confirm the ability to climb, just say "no". Exactly. I'd go so far to say that if you're happy and comfortable at the current assigned altitude, also just say no. Am I the only one who's a bit ...

Re: Screening of ATC candidates
You need to know Manops verbatim. Knowing it verbatim doesn't preclude you from also having to understand the intent of the rule, but not knowing it verbatim and mixing up and/or should/shall will always change the intent and meaning of the rule. If I'm your instructor and your answer isn't verbatim...

In the example given, he's called ATC and informed them he's inbound. Once you're talking to ATC, I wouldn't treat class E any different than class C, or even B, as a pilot. I quoted you again because treating Class B airspace the same as Class C or E is incorrect. There is a big difference between...

Does Manitoba ever test driving ability before they issue a drivers licence? It sure doesn't seem like it. I have lived in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Ontario and Manitoba. By far Manitoba drivers are the worst I have experienced. They don't seem to plan beyond their front bumpers, and they...
