Re: Does anyone get their logbook stamped after PPL

During my PPL I was told to bring my logbook and ask for a stamp during my X/C's. I managed to get a stamp at Cornwall, Kingston and Brockville. There are many days when no one is at the field but if someone is there, they usually have a stamp to use and are happy to have the company if only for 5 m...

Aerobatic Ride?

I am a newly minted PPL based in Ottawa. I would not have made it this far if not for my daredevil wife and her unwavering support thru the years it has taken for me to get here. Last October 18th we were married under a marquee at the Rockliffe Flying Club while Cessna's and Piper's buzzed around i...

Re: Netbooks

Somewhat insider info here but if you are looking to buy a Netbook, I would recommend you hold off until you can buy the netbook with the Nvidia ION package. The current Intel Atom processor is great but the integrated video solution is garbage. What good is a netbook that can't play youtube video? ...

Re: Self study PPL

Also work with your school/CFI as some are reluctant to sign off on your "self study" hours unless you attended their in house ground school. Regardless of how much you can prove you know, you simply won't have those little boxes filled in your PTR that show you came to every class. Without that lis...

Re: Muskoka, Pembroke, Maniwaki, Ottawa, Cornwall, Peterborough

Actually, CYOW is a great place to fly out of - the ATC folks in the tower are the best. The stories I could tell ... But it sure ain't cheap. It's sort of like buying all your groceries at the corner store - convenient, but surely not the most economical. Yeah I was just being silly. I actually lo...

I'd say the same. Avoid YOW like the plague, save your money. -G Awww, YOW isn't so bad from 2000' over the button as you're heading 8 more miles to land at YRO for free. Heck they even give you some radar support and don't charge anything to watch the 'buses landing below you. http://viennatech.ca...

Re: Picton Airport/ Prince Edward Flying Club

My uncle lives near the airport and confirms that it is active at times but it is a fairly quiet field. Did you try here? http://archive.copanational.org/PlacesToFly/airport_view.php?pr_id=1&ap_id=80 It shows many numbers: Airport Management Loch Sloy Holding Ltd. Tel: 613-476-1318 Other General Avi...

Re: Glider License

If one already holds a valid PPL and Cat 3 medical would they still have to go thru all requirements to add the Glider license/endorsement?

I had thought of going to a local field to try out this powerless flight but wasn't sure if they snub the power guys or not!

Re: VTA aerodrome data

It is there for airports that have runways that are different lengths during the day versus the night. In your example your runway is 6000 feet long during the day. At night it might only be 1500 feet long as that is all they put in for runway lights, some places have a shorter runway at night to en...

Re: starting on PPL and would love your input!

Correct - it is illegal for a freelance flight instructor to perform ab initio training, UNLESS the person receiving the training owns the aircraft. See CAR 406.03(2)(b)(iii): Once past PPL level, would it then be okay according to the regs? Say I want to use a club aircraft to take my night rating...

Re: How to Make the Perfect Approach and Landing..

I believe that all of my best landings were made at the 'abeam the numbers' position. Meaning if I do everything more or less right from that point, the landing is assured. If you find yourself behind the aircraft at this point, then it's difficult to play catch up from here until the wheels touch t...

I just can't figure out why people would start smoking in the first place. :smt017 Just makes no sence. You hit the nail on the head RIGHT THERE! People dont' realize the "trick". If you don't light a smoke, you're a NON SMOKER! Try it, if you don't smoke today, and you don't smoke tomorrow, you'll...

Night Rating and PAX

Having finally obtained my PPL last week I am looking forward to the next phase in training which for me will likely be the Night Rating. I understand this to include 5 more hours instrument time, 5 hours dual @night and 5 hours solo @night. This all makes sense. My question is during those night ho...

Consider that Angle of Attack relates to RELATIVE wind. Then get the gears turning in your mind......

Have you read "stick and rudder"? It's valuable in this regard.
