Before he can do that, I think Fisheries and Oceans might want to have a say in that one...at least in my world.Adam Oke wrote:Back in my swamping days, we would build cribs and fill them with rocks. Made a great anchor, and you learned the art of swinging a hammer underwater for repairs.

Meatservo: after my experience with egress training I have to agree with you. Just getting the life jacket on in the water is an ordeal, not sure if I can save myself, let alone the passengers, wearing one all the time makes sense.

And not much room in a Skywagon for fat sightseers.SuperchargedRS wrote:I've been pretty happy with my 185 amphib.
That said if you're hauling folks for hire I'd get a U206 for those rear doors, makes like much easier

newly expired pilot license
I just realized this Sunday morning, my private pilot license expired almost two months ago. I have a current medical. I was out of the country for three months (just returned), it just slipped through the cracks. Looking through the government website did not produce any answers. Does anyone know h...

Re: C180 vs C182 on floats
The wider cabin 182 did not come out until the early 60's, prior to that it was same width as the 180-185. I think a later model 182 with the bigger engine would be dandy, if you could live without the Johnson bar flap control.

Re: Satelite Phone
I had an extremely bad experience with someone using a Spot device that was supposed to send OK signals. Had to fly out to see if they were alright, they were, Spot just was not sending signals consistently. Spot uses Globalstar sats, Globalstar sat phone service is not the best. As sheephunter says...

I have a 185 on straight Aerocets, IO520, would plan for 15 GPH, leaning rich of peak.

Re: Buying your own plane: Calculation?
Be very aware, a recent overhaul will still not insure that something may not happen prematurely, it can and does too frequently, I can attest to that, as can others. Be prepared for the worst, hope for the best and all will be well. As you probably know, a pre-buy inspection by someone unbiased and...

Re: Buying your own plane: Calculation?
You have a lot of total hours and a good amount on floats, so that is a big plus for insurance. Do you want liability insurance or full coverage? What is the value of the plane? We are talking Canada? Mine is around $2800 for full coverage on a $180,000 C185F on straight floats . Most every seaplane...

Re: anyone selling block time on their floatplane this year
Just read one of the few outfits that rents time in floatplanes in the US, has decided after another of their float plane rentals was wrecked, he would no longer be renting.
Good luck on finding someone to rent you their plane. I can see nothing good coming from that as an owner.

Took this picture https://www.dropbox.com/s/p6qi0al472su3d6/IMG_3879.JPG when we were trout fishing March 20th (first day of spring), as you can see we are preparing for an early ice out in N/W Ontario. My prediction: May 18th ice out for Red lake, reason: poor ice structure, temps will moderate.

I'll give another nod for the bunny boots, have been wearing them for years, they keep your feet warm under any conditions.
