Aeroweather app for iPhone / Touch
This app is fantastic. It gives the weather for airports with tafs metars etc., refreshes in a few seconds in a wifi with the Touch and obviously whenever the Phone is in tower range. It's a great way to get a wx brief. You can add whatever airport(s) you want in a group etc. Pax on the way? just hi...

iPod touch for flight planning
Any apps out there for flight planning with the touch?
The maps would be cool if it could just do direct rather than driving instructions.

Re: Computer Log book
Great ideas, thanks!
I am now trying QT Logbook.
I should also explain that I have a paper logbook that would take me a month of Sundays to transcribe.

Calculator for doing Mach #'s
I have a CR-5 calculator that has a section on Mach #'s but I don't have my manual. Does any know where I can get a manual or know how to use it to figure out a TAS from a mach # and true air temp?

One doctor told me that the PSA test was controversial. It isn't necessarily accurate and may trigger unnecessary and potentially dangerous surgery. ( http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/detection/PSA ) Here is a section from a website on the topic " 7 What are some of the limitations of th...

cr-5 jeppeson computer manual
Hi, Just dug it out and was trying to remember how you used the crosswind component to determine effective true airspeed. I can't find the manual. Here is an example; If you have a TAS of160 kts and a wind of 230/51, TH of 082 Seems to me that you; got a tailwind of 43kts, x-wind of 28 degrees, line...

The only way that pilots will ever have sensible pay is if they get rid of the shoestring school operations that keep pumpin em out. You have to squeeze the supply just like others who make the big money. Unions only sort of work. Like a bandaid. Pilots should have proper schools where there is act...

You all have it right about women being better at raising a fuss about things and that's why they have won in the race for breast cancer funding, divorce courts, etc.. There is a way to reduce the likelihood of P. cancer that people are not aware of but needs to be known. It may seem so simple that ...

I've never been in an airline environment.
How much time (Porter) overnight between flights? Worst case scenario? Seems like it is a bit short, (from a quick glance at the schedule) but then you don't have to flight plan, etc.etc.

It's actually 1744 for T/O on the fact sheet at Pilatus. bigredone, The new chip detection system ( I discovered after I posted the question) is a complex one compared to the original version in that it checks out flow from various areas and counts particles somehow. You are right about the chip det...

Another plan might be to rotate to 10 degrees nose up and climb at that attitude. This is the engine failure checklist figure and will keep you alive if you are always in the habit when that ever so unlikely thing should occur.
When 1000 feet above obstacles turn on the A/P and set to cruise climb.

My understanding is that Beechcraft stopped putting sound cancelling in it's airplanes because they didn't work that well in the area of the speakers and it caused problems of some sort. I personally like wearing the headset types and you get what you pay for Telex were not good. (cheapo and breakab...
