Re: Circling Apporaches. Where did they go?
I've been flying in the North for 45 years, and have done probably 100 of them in real time - not to mention the ones in sims (for types I flew that had sim training). I'll be happy to see them completely gone from the IFR procedures. 30/30 is a probably good estimate in sims...

Re: Circling Apporaches. Where did they go?
In Canada, you are expected to circle AT the minimum altitude with precision (50' tolerance), you cannot go any lower than the minimum altitude for circling, and in a wind, bad vis, and constantly scud-running the bases, judging your turns, staying on the commanded speeds, meanwhile trying to solici...

Re: New NOTAM website - old site withdrawn
Love it! Faster, easier, some formatting of the items (compared with the unintelligible cacophony of letters and numbers from before), nice layout, chronological order. Terrific improvement.
NBD to go to a different site for them.

Ahaa! The undying dilemna... To be, or not to be : that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and insults of outrageous fortune, Or to take up up arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing - end them. ... ...what dreams may come When we have shuffled off this mor...

Re: Circling Apporaches. Where did they go?
Where did they go?...are going? GONE , I hope. They are difficult to fly in poor conditions and maintain tolerances. They require intense crew coordination, often with inexperienced and low-time new co-pilots. They require a certain level of skill which is acquired over a long period of time, and ma...

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday
There must be HUNDREDS of npa's flown every day by 320 (-family) that don't end up in the same predicament. Systematically beating the odds of failure. I am not proposing or pontificating punitive measures for the crew. The preliminary report that John Lee delivered to NATA a year ago alluded to all...

??? They flew the plane into the ground, and it was "systemic failures"??

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday
All these words and opinions - millions - for an accident that was clearly pilot error. Too hard for the TSB to lay the blame squarely on the crew.

Re: Looking for assistance finding accom for layover in HKG
Many thanks, Splash, ChinaFlyer. No I'm not on an interline ticket or reduced rate. Got a pass from one of my buddies but it can't be used when the PNR includes non-AC codeshare sector. So I didn't use it. I was booked originally via ICN with a CX/codeshare connection but there was some problem with...

Just somewhere to crash & burn for 12 hours, then off to Cebu. Can't afford 100$ each way to the city if I can avoid that.
Never been there before.

Re: Looking for assistance finding accom for layover in HKG
That is terrific information. Many thanks. I will read and digest later. "Inexpensive" to me is 110 CAD per night (I'll check the HKD conversion later) I had a mate in CX bu he has retired and flies Martin Mars fire bombers now. I'll check around as lots of my younger crew vanished overseas, but I d...

Sure does look like that, but where is the gear?? It's 8 feet high. They must be sunk into the mud.HiFlyChick wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 7:21 pm [quote=Judging from the tire tracks off the end of the runway, it looks like the gear were all down

In the photographs available, the gear is not visible. Was the gear DOWN? begging the question that how did all 4 get wiped off. There's an aerial pic in this article: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/halifax-airport-landing-747-1.4895103 Judging from the tire tracks off the end of the ru...

Doesn't sound like "bad" information to me. Sounds like good information. If flames come out the exhaust (burning cat, burning coat, "burning man"...there won't be any evidence of that after you land, as the exhaust is at the rear of a Q$ engine. Same thing happened to me many tears ago with a Beech...

Re: Are We Safe?
You are going to have to give credit where credit is due, and have faith in the Airline's training and monitoring programs. The majors have VERY robust training programs, and their strict adherence to the SOP goes with very high quality CRM and CFIT training. The SOP is also very robust, leaving lit...
