Crossing over USA momentarily
I plan on flying CYRQ direct CYFC in the very near future. The flight will take me straight across the border over Maine for roughly 45 mins. I plan on filing VFR and to remain low, any idea what kind of ATC procedures will be required along with flight plan considerations? There isn't much for flig...

Re: Corrosion question
Thanks a lot c170b53. Really appreciate your replies. I am still debating whether I should buy that aircraft. I'm gonna need an AME in the Okanagan Valley for a pre-purchase inspection in the next couple days. Any volunteers?

Corrosion question
What would you guys think this means: "Level 1 corrosion on non critical parts". It's from an annual inspection on a Piper Cherokee 140. Just curious... Thanks.

Re: Weather Eastern Canada
Hi folks, is it just me or it's been at least 2-3 weeks now that in the eastern part of the country the weather has been shuffling between MVFR to IFR only. We are constantly affected by Quasi-Stationary low pressure systems that are just sitting there and dumping their crap on us. You even look at...

Re: Military to Civilian AME-M
If you join the military with a recognized AME training diploma you will then be consisered "semi-skilled". You will have to do bootcamp like anybody else joining the CF, no bypass available on that one. However since you are already trained as an AME, once you arrive in Borden you will only need to...

Oshkosh Airventure 2009
Hi guys, from the 27th of July to the 2nd of Aug the famous Oshkosh airshow is being held as usual. I've been dreaming for a while to go there and camp for the whole week or so. Being a fairly new pilot (3 yrs) and having no experience crossing the borders. I was just wondering what would be the thi...

Re: Rec Permit Pilot fliyng into the US
Another Question: Canadian Owner Maintenance Category Aircraft, are they banned from the U.S.? That was the last I heard on it anyhow. 48 AFAIK they are still banned for now, TC is looking at this issue. Funny how you can't go to the U.S. if you do your own maintenance on your C172, meanwhile you c...

PTR
Can you add in the PTR a rental checkout time with an instructor if I'm renting temporary from another flight school. I'm away for 2 months and would like to know if going up with an instructor would count toward DUAL TRAINING in the CPL requirement?

Re: Tax deductions - help!
Sorry I'm digging up this thread but it is still unanswered... Para 29: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tp/it516r2/it516r2-e.html#P236_29135 4th para: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pbg/tf/tl11b/tl11b-08e.pdf I read the first reference, it kind of leads to a "no" for claiming the whole 200 hours, only th...

Re: N1 vs. N2?
I fly and fix the Bell 412CF which uses the PT6T-3D. N1 (38100 rpm @ 100%) also known as Ng is your gas generator composed of 3 stages of axial compressor, 1 stage of centrifugal compressor (1:7 ratio) which is hooked up to a single stage turbine. N1 will drive your starter-generator, tach-generator...

Re: People looking for a cheap way to build time
Actually, I mispoke in my first post. KGA has both ultra-lights and Amature Built Aircraft to rent. As posted above only 25 hours of time can count on an ultra-light airplane. However, their other two aircraft are registared as amature built, and on these aircraft all the time counts. Their rental ...

Re: Flight Engineer
Now...where's Strega to say these people aren't really 'engineers' They arent.. It depends what kind of qualifications the individual holds. The SO that is waiting for his FO seat, I'd say no. The FE with his mechanical background and that holds the maintenance and servicing quals to turn the aircr...

Re: Flight Engineer
I am not confusing FE with S/O. I will contact TC, maybe they'll tell me how to proceed. There are some companies out there that employ FE's on older airframe (727, L-1011, DC-10, 747-100/200, etc) and don't expect you to become FO and that's what I'm looking for. Although working towards my CPL, I ...

We don't hear about these guys very often but they're still out there flying cargo around the country in older planes. Anybody knows a school or a study package or any kind of training required to write the FLENG exam from TC to get the Flight Engineer license??

How about MIFR? Instructor rating? If you have the CPL granted can you still get those deduction or it's better to do it during the CPL training?

Tax deductions - help!
I'm working towards the CPL (night rating for now). I talked to my CFI this week about the tax deductions process with Revenue Canada and he basically told me that I may get the credit only from the TRAINING portion of the CPL. That of course includes Dual with an instructor and all Solo work. Meani...
