Atikokan is a dead airport, but the town still relies on it for medevac operations. This would be the same for Manitouwadge, Hearst, Kirkland Lake, Elliot Lake, Gore Bay etc. These airports are likely on the chopping block as well.

The TBM pilot was aware he had an issue. He twice asked for a lower altitude, only communicating to ATC that it was an indication issue. ATC denied the requests, unaware of the problem. It could have more to do with the 20,000 hour life inspection of the PC-12. From what i've seen it can be a time consuming and expensive process. The life inspection of the PC-12 is due to Pilatus never having designed the machine for high cycles or time. I belive they had built it based on the idea...
