Re: New duty regs are out

For the non - medevac 703 world, has "oncall" been replaced by "stand by"? It does not seem clear in the gazette.

Re: Navcanada discontinuing approaches at under-serviced airports

Atikokan is a dead airport, but the town still relies on it for medevac operations. This would be the same for Manitouwadge, Hearst, Kirkland Lake, Elliot Lake, Gore Bay etc. These airports are likely on the chopping block as well.

Navcanada discontinuing approaches at under-serviced airports

Has anyone in NWO noticed that Atikokan is no longer a published IFR airport? I have heard that Navcanada will be eliminating approaches from airports that it sees as under served. Specifically, if the airport does not have a scheduled service and / or a certified weather station attached to it, it ...

Re: Reps from operators express concern on new duty regs

It is my suspicion that many of the current managers in Canadian aviation are trapped in an outdated paradigm. They simply can not see hazards associated with fatigue. I believe this would be similar to previous generations that accepted driving while intoxicated as being a norm, not wearing seat be...

Re: Socata down S. of Jamaica, 2 dead, possible loss of pres

The TBM pilot was aware he had an issue. He twice asked for a lower altitude, only communicating to ATC that it was an indication issue. ATC denied the requests, unaware of the problem. The pilot should have descended and declared. http://www.flyingmag.com/technique/accidents/doomed-tbm-900-pilot-tw...

Re: Canada Flight Supplement

The CFS airport pages have been added to the Fltplan Go android app, for anyone who uses that program. It provides free access now for the complete US and Canadian plates, lows, highs, and airport info. Its only really lacking the CAP Gen, but that can be downloaded for free from NavCan. Oh, wow......

Re: Ornge Sikorsky Air ambulance accident Northern Ontario

I'm simply speculating here as well. I'm a fixed wing turbine pilot, so my knowledge with helicopters is less than through. How much extra performance would an S-76A have at low altitude and low airspeed should they lose an engine? With four crew members, a medevac interior and IFR fuel required for...

Re: Pilatus PC-12 in Airline Operations

It could have more to do with the 20,000 hour life inspection of the PC-12. From what i've seen it can be a time consuming and expensive process. The life inspection of the PC-12 is due to Pilatus never having designed the machine for high cycles or time. I belive they had built it based on the idea...

I've been using FltPlan.com for the past couple months on my android tablet. It's not quite as refined as the IPAD version, but it gets the job done..and for free!
