Re: Air Canada deal dead
I believe they’ve had a say ever since ‘open skies’ became a reality. Similar to the impact the acquisition may’ve had on fares and competition here, the same applied to Europe. I’ve mixed feelings about it falling through. No one looked forward to the integration of lists, but there was lots of pot...

Re: College
I think a college, or even a Canada-wide Association is realizable, and is the only way to stand strong and improve terms and conditions for (airline) pilots in Canada. I stumbled across an article in a Dutch magazine about the Association they've in the Netherlands, the VNV (Vereniging Nederlandse ...

Re: Crew screening
CATSA are the hidden unemployment numbers of Canada, especially the ones occupying the crew bypass positions. A hypocrite joke. I'm 100% for randomly checking crew members for drugs, or other smuggle items. But to check the bottom of my shoes, or to turn my phone or laptop on, just to make sure it's...

TELEX 50D ANR STRATUS FOR SALE, Toronto area
I have a Telex 50D headset for sale. 2.5 years old. Used it on the Fairchild Metro (SA227). Have since moved to a much quieter aircraft and don't need it anymore. Headset is in MINT shape. Had it all checked over in April 2010 by the factory. Some features: - 2 years factory warranty left - 50 dB ac...

Re: Telex 50D
I use the 50D on the Metro (SA227... the quieter one ;)), and it works outstanding. The 50D without ANR is better then my DC with ear plugs. Yes, it's a bit of a tool to handle and the cable is quite long, but fatigue is greatly reduced with the noise reduction of this headset. After market service ...

Re: Young A330 FO
Company I used to dipatch for back in Holland hired an F/O direct entry B757 at age 19. System IS completely different in Europe like people said before. You buy your job pretty much. Pay is better though. But what really is the purpose behind becoming a pilot? Is the flying still fun after 20 years...

Re: RATO Metro??!! WTF?
At PAG as for firing the water... depends on the aircraft.
On the III we bring a shot with us up north anytime the OAT is above say 10 C. Not sure about the II. We're far more restricted with the whole >12.566 lbs thing. It's quite a weight penalty not firing it especially in the summer.

Re: TC finally wising up and changing the duty regs?
In Europe there's a 15 minute penalty for every landing after 3 sectors. It would be good to see that happen here too.

Re: Perimeter
New CFI is a good guy. Former guy moved on, as so many instructors. Rates are just below 300/hr. Not sure about a surcharge. The Peg is dealing with ATC restrictions in the summer, but I think that is a national problem. You can get your stuff done quickly. They have a bunch of new instructors there...

Re: Perimeter IFR training?
Don't know about Cornwall, just that guys get their stuff done quickly. PAG Academy is a good place, at least to work. What I liked most while working there was their syllabus, and the fact that planes are maintained well. Snags actually get fixed, something which doens't always happen at flight sch...

Re: Canadians working in the EU?
I heared that TC is working together with JAR to streamline conversion from Canadian ATPL to a European ATPL. Kindda like converting from a Canadian license to FAA. I wonder though, would they throw out the number of exams all of a sudden? The trend is that the JAA follows the rest but in a slow pac...
