Re: Calgary FTU...
I don't know much about Morgan air, only that you`ll end up spending a considerable amount more $$$$$. They operate out of the international airport, this means a lot of taxi time, take-off and landing fee`s as well as flying to other airports for circuits (and you`ll be doing a lot of them) The Ta...

Re: Class 2 written and ride advice...
My Class 2 ride was quite hard, I got worked. I had to show how I would conduct my CFI duties, and now the laws on supervision. I then had to teach a student that was rushed through the basics and was having trouble with soft fields. I had to teach soft fields as a PGI and in the air, slow flight, s...

Re: Forced Approach.
I do wonder though. There was a Cherokee that went in in the Glen Valley a few years ago, does anyone know or remember the circumstances? One I remember was the student put the airplane in a spiral on a solo in the Glenn Vally. They figure it might have been poor practice on steep turns and wrong r...

I don't think it really matters what school. I've spent time with most of the schools out here, and I know people form each school who found a job with the companies you listed. The major differences between each school are the individual instructors.

Re: GPS 400 training
Any flight school can train on a Garmin if they have he equipment.
As for a approval for GPS training for 703, 704, & 705 its a different story. Very hard to find unless your develop your own program, or pay a fare bit of coin.

My recommendation would be to go to places where you can drop off your resume and talk to different operators. I got an interview out the whole deal.

34 is still young, you still have lots of time. My commercial ground school the majority of people were over 30, wanting to change careers. Most of those guys are either in an airline or capt on twin otter or the like at this point. My float instructor flew commercially up until 2 days before he pas...

Re: Logbook/PTR certification
Where's Jason W "MorganCFI" on this? He’s Authorized and should be able confirm one way or another. Does the logbook need to be signed by the instructor and certified or not? Logbooks I don't think need to be certified, but I guess it doesn't hurt. I just go ahead and do it. As an authorized person...

Re: Upcoming Flight Test
Focus on the Aim of the exercises rather then all the little details. You can blow alot of the standards and still pass as long as you acomplish the Aim of the exercises, unless the standards are directly related to the Aim. For example you can blow your landing point by two times the standard, and ...

think it was fairly simple to see that what he was referring to was using flaps and sideslip to cover up piss poor technique and planning. As was what I read into this post. Exactly. The original post was asking how to practice forced approaches. Planning and judgment should be practiced over last ...

Re: Forced Approach.
DO NOT USE FLAPS OR A FORWARD-SLIP as a standard forced approach. Theses are last ditch efforts ONLY and should not be allowed during initial practice because they do not teach proper judgement. It really peeves me when students or instructors teach and practice this as routine. You are loosing alti...

Re: Different Instructor classes
Being on the premises is a rediculous requirement if you are CFI. That would mean no flying, and no time off for alot of people. Class 2's and 1's are few and far between. I would like TC to define "Direct Supervision." Far as I know, it means that they tell me what they're planning to teach each da...

Re: CYYC/CYBW Instructor rating?
Morgan Air at YYC has 2 Class I's. Unfortunately I'm too busy to take on another instructor candidate right this moment. I already have 3 full time instructor candidates on top of my multi engine students. One is finishing up this month, however I am only going to take on 2 at a time max. The other ...

Re: Power-On stalls and PPL Flight Test
Stalls should be practiced from many different scenarios. Often instructors practice power off, on straight and level. Switch it up. Read this for inspiration: http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/General/Flttrain/TP13747/TP13747E.pdf On the flight test you can get anything. Often examiners switch it u...

Re: Square circuits or rounded circuits?
I would say its situation dependant. Considering aircraft type, traffic, pilot ability, configuration, terrain, etc. For most new students square pattern works best for judgement of glidepath, traffic, etc. Once proficient, give new scenarios where square pattern doesnt work, ie a mountain strip. Yo...

Obviously a radio does not replace a good scan, but my concern is since we are all talking, how do we make sure we can all hear each other? Most collisions happen in the vicinity of an aerodrome with both aircraft travelling in relatively the same direction during dawn and dusk. Use the proper freq...
