Re: From Wheels to Floats
I've also been thinking about doing this myself. I have just over 1500 TT, 600 PIC. I only have 30 hours on floats too though. Think someone would let me drive their 185?? Two things though: do not want to spend time on the dock and I haven't touched a piston since flight school. Good luck finding ...

Re: From Wheels to Floats
Take a road trip and stop at some of the float bases to hand in a resume in person. Employers like it when someone shows a little ambition to get a flying job, even if you have low time on floats. And your chances of getting hired are way better than they guy with the same amount of time that faxes ...

Re: got the new licence
I wonder if back in the day (before the current "blue licenses") if people complained this much about having to fill out some paper work to get the new license format?? I highly doubt it. It's not that people are complaining about having to fill out the paperwork, it's the fact that TC is making us...

Re: Has anyone worked for Kenora Air Service?
Green Hornet must have been turned down from a dock job there and that is why he is so bitter about this operation. Good people, good times from what I have heard, minus a little shit around the base, but you get that everywhere.

Re: VFR over the top for sea planes?
It might seem ok until the one lone vacuum pump you have in your float plane packs it in and you are over a 3000' layer that hangs down to 300' agl and is over your destination you have to make a decent through the clouds. VFR OTT not a good idea for seaplanes unless it is less than a broken layer a...

Re: How much do you pay for your "av medical"? ($80 or $120?)
$60 for the medical $55 for TC All covered by Jazz! Personally I think our provincial health insurance should cover this expense (at least for the basic medical...maybe not the ECG/Audiogram). Your provincial health insurance covers a yearly check up. Most of us don't use this as we have an avaitio...

Re: Why does health insurance not cover an aviation medical?
I understand that, but the government will pay way more than a few hundred dollars for a medical, than they will when someone is on EI

Beech 18.... End of an era?
It seems to me like the Beech 18 is becoming more of a dock ornament than a useful aircraft. Now I know some operators still have them and fly them daily but do you think they are slowly being replaced by the Turbo Otters and Beavers. The high maintenance costs of operating 2 R-985 Pratts for a smal...

Re: The 206 on floats
Now is the time to buy a Beech-18 and throw 2 Pratt's in it. Those sexy Beech's are selling cheap! A personal Beech Turbo-Liner would be mint.

Why does health insurance not cover an aviation medical?
I am posting this after reading another post about aviation medical cost. How can one doctor charge you $180 and another will do it for $40? Doctors make a very good salary compared to all entry level pilots so why do they pick on them like this? Also, why does our health care not cover this? I can ...

Re: How much do you pay for your "av medical"? ($80 or $120?)
Id say they are picking on pilots. As hard as it is for a young guy to get into the field, then they get nailed with all these extra fees that your health care should cover. Why can I get a quadruple bypass under my health care but they wont sign a piece of paper saying Im fit to work/fly?

Re: The 206 on floats
Very nice plane for personal use. Or short charters. Not very practical for a lodge or outpost company who flies long legs with lots of fuel and full loads.

Re: How much do you pay for your "av medical"? ($80 or $120?)
So what is with the $55 fee from TC? Doesn't the government take enough of our money at tax time anyways? $55 for an 8"x11" piece of paper is ridculous.
