Re: Homebuilt aerobatic restriction removal
I wouldn't do any snap rolls in an RV. Snap rolls are hard on the structure of the fuselage and vertical stabilizer. Stay away from them unless you are in a plane that is specifically designed for advanced aerobatics like a Pitts, Extra, Sukhoi, etc. The Extra is a fantastic plane for snaps and you ...

Re: Homebuilt aerobatic restriction removal
I live in Okotoks and I fly out of High River or Springbank. Most of the evaluation process is done on the ground. It involves going through your airplane to see what makes it different or unique and how this will affect the aerobatic flying qualities. ie, any significant modifications from the plan...

Re: Homebuilt aerobatic restriction removal
Hi garyt, I did the aerobatic evaluation for my Cassutt, and I have flown several RVs including the -8. So don't worry about me hurting myself or the airplane. And unlike Hedley, I don't have a habit of falling out of simple figures like loops or hammerheads. :D (that's a joke pal so don't go ballis...

Yup, go to Bassano and fly with Jim Hrymack, he has a Citabria and a Harvard. That is the only game in town right now. http://jimhrymackairshows.com/ I used to take people for rides in the syndicate SuperDecathlon at YBW but I had to sell my share recently. Your best bet if you are serious about aer...

Re: Homebuilt aerobatic restriction removal
You can hire a qualified pilot to do it for you, finding one may be a problem. I am qualified to do it for you, bring it to High River.

Re: Two crop dusters collide in Rosetown.
Rosetown is an ATF aerodrome, it is not an MF. There is no requirement to use a radio. There is no mention of right hand circuits in the Flight Sup, so the right base is a violation, although that may or may not have been a contributing factor to the accident. 602.19 (10) No person shall conduct or ...

Re: CEN4 (High River, AB) crash?
A Cessna 120/140 ground looped in a quartering tailwind. There was a lot of convective activity that day and the time of day was mid-afternoon.
I think it would be a fair assumption to say that it was due to a thermal.
The pilot is ok but it sounds like he was a bit shaken up.

Re: Training to use the radio
When there are ten aircraft trying to make radio calls, you must pare the calls down to the bone or the radio becomes worse than useless - it becomes a distraction, and in fact may reduce the level of safety - when all you hear is a stuck mike, continuous squeal, etc. When that happens, you might a...

Re: Pet Peeves
I would like to clarify my previous post. BPF may have jumped to the conclusion that I was criticizing student pilots. Instructors are responsible for the students actions. It is hard to give advice to students when their instructors are telling them the opposite. All of the radio transmissions that...

Re: Training to use the radio
Correction: I did not make any derogatory comments directed toward student pilots. Pointing out bad radio procedures to instructors and other licensed pilots is not derogatory. I approached the flight instructor D.N. at CFTC several times in a polite and respectful manner about his sloppy radio and ...

Once more, with feeling, aimed squarely at the 200 hour wonders: Please don't try the turnback unless you have received specialized training and have experience in that particular maneuver, because you will likely kill yourself and any unfortunate pax who happen to be aboard When I was flying...

Re: Minister of Transport is an embarassment
After watching that video of Baird, I can see where Transport Canada employees learn the attitude of disrespect and contempt that they have for pilots and the general aviation community. No wonder he can't sort out a simple issue like ELT's, he has other priorities that have nothing to do with the o...

Re: 500' Circuits
At YBW if I do circuits in the Decathlon I will request an opposite downwind (right or left because because the normal downwinds are either west or north of the tower) from the controller in order to pass a trainer or trainers in the pattern in front of me. No harm, no foul, and everybody is happy, ...

Can you take people for rides if the payment for the flight goes to a charitable organization?
Example; Pax donates $100 to the local aircraft museum in exchange for the flight.
Thanks,
