Re: Seeking Advice on Diagnosing Oil Consumption
There is no point checking the oil in the dreaded C150 other than first thing before starting the engine. It takes a long time (more than 6 hours, IIRC) for the oil to drain into the sump.

Re: Wearing a life vest while flying on floats
On floats, I wear a non-certified boating Mustang PFD with the automatic activator removed. I have another one for my passenger . Both are very comforatable and do not interfere with movement in any way. There are 2 certified life jackets in the plane, but I doubt they will ever be used. I would muc...

Re: Canadian Flight Centre and Brampton Flight Centre
I have flown in both areas. I do not know the individual clubs. I took 6 hours aerobatics at Harv's once. Differences: At Steinbach, 4 minutes in the Citabria, you are almost anywhere with empty sky, 4000 AGL, start practising. Do this 250 - 300 days per year. Lose 30-40 days to cold, 10-20 days to ...

I was taught the only way to respond to a squawk ident was by pushing the ident button. I have never been criticised for doing it that way. ATC always returns with Identified through ... Re: question on civilian buying aircrafts
Even if I had money laying around to buy one, I'd just pay for a few rides here and there.... After reading the website I had to calculate how many hours I could afford. Unfortunately it didn't take very long If I had that kind of money though, I'd get a Pitts and a small Citation. One for fun and ...

Re: Plane down at Cooking Lake
Since the first thing one is supposed to do in a rescue is determine the status of the people to be rescued I wonder why the professionals were not able to do that in a timely and suitable manner. Good thing there was a canoeist to check whether anyone was bleeding, or going into diabetic shock or.....

Re: MRU Hits Fence
I fly into Sundre lots. There is no excuse. Either you reject the takeoff and/or you use the other runway! The fence is a standard 3 strand barb-wire, quite aways off the runway. How anyone can CHOOSE to be low enough to hit it is beyond my understanding. No variable tailwinds, no DA miscalculations...

Re: AME cracked cylinder while removing exhaust - liability?
If I see an exhaust issue I say something before I pull it. The same thing every time. If the exhaust had to come off, chances are a stud is going to break. It doesn't happen all the time, but enough that before I take the exhaust off I always mention to the owner that they're on the hook if a stud...

I can find insurance for floats but if I have under 50 hours the price is ridiculous. There are places that rent float planes. Not many but they are out there.

Re: Training only/predominantly in a Cessna 152
^ +1 And it's not more fun, it's way more fun! The 172 flies like a bus in comparison. And having flown one, you could jump into the other. I would recommend a checkout, but .... A 172XP needs a checkout though unless you have CS prop experience. The 180/182/185 are quite a bit more of an airplane. ...
