Holy Squat, Batman! I've just had the wildest sense of deja vu! It's obvious the whole wage thing is such a bitter point for all of us. Now I have already done my rants about this and similar topics which are all interelated, so I'll just say : search out the various (and surprisingly few) posts and...

This forum has happened before. History does repeat itself. A recent survey found that more employees would prefer recognition of their work than a wage increase. This survey had to do with the retention of employees. As we are seeing, throwing money at things doesn't always rectify the problem beca...

Renewing AME licence
Question: My licence is expiring this summer and I haven't worked in the industry for the better part of 2 years. Am I correct in my understanding that I will not be able to renew my licence because of the lack of time in? Am I also correct in stating that in order to get my licence back, I will nee...

Yes, move to Alberta! Work for the oil and gas companies on the drilling rigs. For a week long course, you can begin working as a leasehand (kind of like an apprentice roughneck) for roughly $20/hr for 8 hrs, then time and a half for the next 4 hours, usually a 12 hour day. The companies will provid...

Wow! This is definitely quite the thread! After spending the time to read all of it, there are some really great points to show that the aviation industry in CANADA is truly circling the drain. (Please people, the US may be our neighbour but not all statistics and information are the same for us, al...

Hey I got a 90% in school, but ultimately that only meant that I was book smart along with a general aptitude for fixing planes, but the passion wasn't there to keep me in the industry. I might return to the industry only for a brief time just to have a job, but that isn't where I want to be in seve...

Well I hate to be a complete pessimist when it comes to finding work in Aviation. As being out of work for a lengthy period of time, it has made me decide that this isn't worth it and hung up my tools. There is work out there and most likely you will have to move. Just remember, if you don't love wh...

As an AME I applied there a while ago. If they start talking about "Brent Gateman" being the be-all-and -end-all to aviation and the emlpoyees, that means that they haven't grown up from when I talked to them last. Don't get me wrong, they are good people, just think that they need to get things fig...

Re: Time and experience???
What a freaking scam this industry is....they treat you like garbage as if you just came out of elementary school! Use you, and dispose you when you are not needed anymore....or you end up just quitting the place. (I know that there are some legit and descent companies, who will keep their word, so...

Planeguy, you have a couple good points about the resume sending and courses showing that one has an interest in aviation. However, I have to agree with Pat Richard that treating secretaries poorly is NOT in your best interest. Chances are, it might actually be the DOM's wife, or since most companie...

Sorry, the last 2 years have not been enjoyable with the comapny that I worked with, and has left a nasty taste. Twotter, I apologize. When you do have a piece of paper stating that you have learned the twin otter after taking a week or so long course, to be told there is no such endorsement... well...
