Re: Emirates or Air Canada
It's definitely not an easy decision anymore. When I left Canada over 20 years ago it was a no brainer. Pay and conditions were light years ahead. That's not the case anymore. What may appear to be better salaries overseas now are usually offset by poor schedules and working conditions and a higher ...

Why is step 3 787 FO lower than step 3 737 FO? All the other 787 steps are higher than their equivalent 737 step.

Re: Health Benefits
What health benefits are offered to pilots at Porter (life insurance/disability; dental …)? Do the pilots pay a portion of the coverage? Two different plan options. CORE or ENHANCED. I’m on family enhanced. Cost about $250-$300 a month. (I did very crude mental math) Enhanced has $300 vision every ...

Re: bumping first class passengers for deadhead crew
First of all, you were not booked in First Class. Air Canada hasn’t sold a First Class ticket in over 25 years. As well noted above, Captains, First Officers and Augment First Officers are contractually given a Business Class seat when DeadHeading. RPs in Economy, pending space in Business or Premi...

Min days off per month?

How is scheduling done?

Re: 705 PIC vs 737 type
What aircraft type is your current job upgrade going to be on? Getting 737 PIC time will make you extremely marketable globally. If you go to the ULCC, you can still jump to AC if you want and if not you can upgrade in a couple years and open up lots of other options.

Re: Foreign DEC
In case you missed it we are involved in contract negotiations to do exactly that. Regardless of the pay stealing pilots from other companies is a bandaid solution and moves the problem to another carrier and does little to address the underlying issue of not enough experienced 705 pilots in Canada...

Re: Best 705 retirement plans
I didn't realise AC had that TBP. No thanks. I'd much rather have a straight DC than that. I'll take 100% of my money any day over an amount decided by other people that may be reduced out of concern for future solvency of the plan. This seems like it would only benefit those who can't budget or man...

Re: DEC Posting
I think I would need to start at year 34 captain pay to make that worthwhile. Can some post the captain pay scales, is it status pay even on the EMJ? If hired today: Pay scale effective 01 July 2022 (all aircraft) 1. 84.89 2. 87.55 3. 91.79 4. 94.45 5. 98.70 6. 107.21 7. 109.89 8. 112.65 9. 115.46 1...

Simple, sign the bond note, and there's language in it that says just that. On the brighter side, there has just been a substantial bump to pilot salaries across the board, other improvements to per diems /shift premiums, and promises of more to come on other aspects of WaWCON. What is the new pay ...

Re: Private flying YAZ
Thanks. I figured now that the airport is a bit busier with some scheduled service and such, there would likely be a few more people around to possibly report you. What is the legality of walking around an airport that isn’t access controlled? Where would be the best place in the lower mainland to r...

I’m planning on doing some private flying to Tofino this summer. Is there an easy, and walkable way to get from the airport down to the beach? A friend mentioned that 30 years ago he used to just climb down the slope by the end of one of the runways right on to the beach. I’m guessing walking around...
