Re: Motorcycle-licensed pilots

Indanao - Now I hope you wave at everyone because I haven't seen many scooters like that! I wave at everyone, unless I'm distracted by the scenery (which happens a lot around here), or scaring myself in a corner. I find people on similar bikes tend to wave the most. I had a guy on a Goldwing flip me...

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

I assume you keep the rpm back for wear/noise? No arguments from me, it's all airmanship of being nice to your equipment. In the turboprops we just set climb props until the rollout or go-around. I haven't flown or really thought about a constant speed prop in a few years...so I'm really no expert.

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

Cat- single pilot piston twin on final.

Sort of like looking at the stab and flap setting when taking position on a runway.

Sorry about contributing to some thread drift here....Hopefully all involved are ok, and not much more than a few eqo's are damaged.

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

I completely agree about the experience aspect. But money is a great way to attract talent. And what school pays more?

My point is these are system wide problems, nothing unique to just one school. The MPL is another example of how the whole industry is headed in the wrong direction.

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

Cat - Ha! I did hear about that, nope, I think I was there a few years before I read about that. If that had been the case, I agree, stupid thing to do. You should train as you fly. What is it on pistons again? Prop-Flap-Gear. Stuff like that should be ingrained in everyone at that stage and not ski...

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

Not going to pretend to point fingers in the direction of "why" Seneca is having way more than an acceptable number of deaths/accidents/incidents, BUT if the commercial aviation world had an operation with this dismal a safety record there would be a TC investigation. Nobody's perfect, but I can th...

Re: Mandatory Retirement Repeal Passes 2nd Reading in Parlia

I still hope to retire at 60, even if I loose about 4 years worth of pay due to a delayed career being forced on me. There are many things outside of work that I hope to do while I'm physically able. (Like surfing avcanada hourly!) Btw, 9/10 new hires that I know will not make 35 years of service (m...

Cookie, Maybe AC has problems reading cover letters that don't use paragraphs. Or maybe your personality leaves something to be desired. Re: saying no to bad pay

Good for your friend. Low ball offers will always exist and some will go for them. I turned down a cadet offer from Cathay last month. (I've been on a 'hired hold pool' list for 2 years for a normal pilot position there) Deciding what you think you are worth really is a personal decision, and you wo...

Re: Turbo - prop/fan/jet ?

Also consider how you are judging engine output.

Turboprops - Torque or % of max torque

Turbofans/Jets/Millenium Falcon - EPR (Exhaust pressure ratio) - Difference in air pressure leaving the engine compared to entering the engine.

Re: Cathay Interview

I had a DESO interview in 2008. Pprune is an excellent source of info. I spent most of my spare time studying for those interviews. (about 5 months) The cadet interview used to be much different then the DE interviews. Have the technical knowledge that you would need to pass your atpl's and you will...

Re: 1100 Hours, Your advice on my next move please

Buddy, your asking the wrong crowd. What your basically asking us is "if I work for free for 4 month I will have a better log book, should I do this?" (keep in mind, most people on here are starting out just like you, how do you expect them to react?) Will this advance your career? Probably. Will it...

Re: Bugs at Altitude

Bugs are limited in altitude by the temperature. Most fly up to around 10 degrees C. We had some warm air at altitude a month ago, and we hit some sort of wasp around 7000'.

I've heard that the tall shorts captain demands a good air guitar from new FO's.

I've heard great things about them, but couldn't get myself to move somewhere that cold.

Look up the vid's on youtube.

Re: Pasco BE1900Cs and SH360s......

The FO pay scale is independent of aircraft type, it is only based on pic time and time with the company. Schedule, roughly 14 to 17 days/month. Same number of days for either A/C type, just different routes. It typically seems that junior guys go on the shorts or the saab so they are with experienc...

I used to rent out of there. I've also rented from Brampton and trained at Buttonville. That was a few years ago and I never did any training at Guelph. Pro's: - Small Airport, good skill development on small runways - No traffic delays - No time wasted commuting to practice areas - Relatively good ...

The book was much better than the movie.

Hello again, Yep, I've looked through those sites and have a ton of material to work through. But I'm also looking for a prep course or people's thoughts on a prep course. I've spent the money on a prep course for anything else before. But for this I want to use all resources available. Thanks again.

Cathay interview - prep course advise

Hello everyone, I'm happy to be spending this month studying for a first interview with Cathay later in July and am wondering if anyone has done a prep course in the past for it. So far, I've only found PCC as a place that does courses in YVR. (which is good, because I live in YVR). Has anyone here ...
