Re: Tourist killed at St. Maarten Jet Blast Hotspot
#1 tourist attraction in St. Marteen! It was just a matter of time! Betcha officials will not make any changes because people will stop visiting.

Re: Transport Minister Marc Garneu
Garneau came from the Navy before he became an astronaut. He's not like Chris Hadfield who came with an air force background. Now he is a politician doing what politicians are expected to do, keep the masses happy so he gets re-elected. If Hadfield is smart - which he is - he will never run for off...

Re: "Canadian pilots association sounds warning over safety cuts"
Not much of a ripple on this here euh? I guess safety oversight is not a popular subject, even though it is necessary and important. Does anyone really know how TC has done MEASURABLY in terms of surveillance, oversight and enforcement in recent years? Is it a good thing to know that the odds of bei...

Re: New Pilot owns plane looking for suggestions.
I plan on heading to rockliffe to the Aviation Museum this year. Nova Scotia to Rockliffe is a nice trip and the aviation museum is OK, but crossing over Maine is somewhat of a challenge. It will take you over serious elevation changes, few landing spots or refueling stops, and unpredictable weathe...

Re: C525 goes missing over Lake Erie with 6 aboard
Pilots who's dough of business success have gotten them into the cockpit of a high performance AC with all the bells and whistles and one day find out at the wrong time they are still not practised enough when wx or vis is too tough for the experience level (or even some influence in the way of ide...

Re: C525 goes missing over Lake Erie with 6 aboard
Fair enough that we shouldn't paint everyone with the same brush and common sense prevails that most pilots - private and commercial - are indeed very safe. To frame the particular issue is to narrow it to the pressure to make it home in marginal conditions. Most accidents of this type involve some ...

Re: C525 goes missing over Lake Erie with 6 aboard
I recall a similar accident in Algonquin Park a few years ago when a successful businessman was flying home to Sudbury from Kingston, later at night than previously planned, and he lost control in IMC and killed his family too. On another occasion a dentist was flying out of Philadelphia back to Ont...

Re: C525 goes missing over Lake Erie with 6 aboard
You would think so, but it really does catch people off guard. Your sense of balance is strong and it takes a fair bit of IFR experience to overwrite that with "trust your eyes and what the instruments show." The rating does not prove that you can force your body to go against instinct in every pos...

Re: Russian military Tu-154 aircraft disappears from radar after take-off in Sochi
It may be hard to get the true story on this one. My first thought however was a Gander repeat/lookalike, which means we may never know... Initial report seems to rule out weather but then again who knows. Traveling on or around Christmas Day with a famous choir going to perform a Xmas concert may a...

Re: Soccer Team Charter Down in Columbia on flight from Bolivia to Medellin
Why does he need fuel for an alternate? Every major airline in this country is approved for no alternate IFR and use it on a regular basis. Dispatchers are actually expected to use it and tracked to ensure they do use it to ensure they aren't tankering unnecessary fuel. There are goals set ie 60% o...

... Assuming the draft report has been in the hands of interested parties for a while and comments received and addressed, I expect the TSB to announce a press conference soon, no later than April 2016, where Dame Kathy Fox will sit at the head table with Daryl on the left and Mark Clitsome on the ...

Re: Sun'n Fun Airshow and convention, Lakeland Florida
Which $500,000 GA aircraft did you end up buying? I haven't picked mine yet. Yeah I know, me neither... ;-) The reference to the TBM 930 was because in the USA, GA includes business aviation, which explains the presence of TBM and others. Don't fool yourself though, many Americans can and do own su...

Sun'n Fun Airshow and convention, Lakeland Florida
Just happened to visit Sun'n Fun in Lakeland, Florida today for the first time and boy oh boy, the GA industry is kicking and screaming hot South of our border. The aircraft on display from enthusiasts and dealers were great.... Oh my Gawd you gotta see the new Daher TBM 930 in real life... what a a...

Re: Lancair emergency landing on same highway in Cali, twice
Lancair IV... Quite the performance single.... A decent used Lancair IV can cost same or more than a ... MU2, and can come either with a turbocharge piston or a turbo prop, I believe. Bad day, wrong place wrong time, for this poor fellow and his passengers in the car. Reminds me of the Bell 206 in M...

Re: Crash at Iles-de-la-Madeleine
Interesting how the TSB investigation is headed and done by their Atlantic Regional office, and not from the Quebec regional office. A Quebec-based crew, to and from two Quebec airports, all French speaking including all 7 victims. I get it that Iles-de-la-Madeleine are physically close to the Atlan...

Re: Crash at Iles-de-la-Madeleine
When flown by properly trained pilots, the MU-2 is probably the best performing plane out there...however, just jumping in from a King Air or Twotter could get you in serious trouble if you get an engine loss on go around...There's no ailerons but spoilers...so unless you really, but really step in...

Re: US dollar plane purchases
From a prospective GA buyer's perspective, the low dollar sucks. All aircraft on controller.com are listed in US dollars, even most aircraft for sale in Canada. I looked at Diamonds, Bonanza, Mooneys, Cessnas and they all cost us 40 to 50% more. This is not unique to aviation though... the only advi...

Re: Ornge Sikorsky Air ambulance accident Northern Ontario
Word is that IIC Daryl Collins is extremely dedicated to find every little detail to nail TC Ontario Region for its deficient oversight of ORNGE, as well as finger pointing ORNGE management for mismanaging the operation which resulted in the crash. The irony for Collins is that as a TSB IIC, he does...
