Re: New Pilot - Question about frequency of flying ...
Hedley, Thanks! Great suggestions. I'm goal-oriented, so having specifics to work with will make it more interesting. Free advice: work on your precision on final approach. Hold your desired airspeed precisely - not 5 mph too high or too low (easy way to tell the newbies from the pros - they can't c...

Re: New Pilot - Question about frequency of flying ...
Agreed. Cheers. My point being that getting your flying "fix" is far better than doing no flying at all. Many private pilots skills degrade I find so much because they're always planning to only fly when they can get that mythical big trip in, which given their personal schedules, the weather and ai...

Re: New Pilot - Question about frequency of flying ...
Shiny side up -- I have the time for it. (I did my PPL in 3 months ... I have made time for it.) And I love flying in Canada. I just do not love winter.... Right now I have the luxury of time, and the freedom, to be somewhere warmer for the next few months if I can figure out how to keep flying whil...

Re: New Pilot - Question about frequency of flying ...
Thanks everyone for your comments and thoughts. Shiny side up - I am trying to fly weekly or every 10 days, weather permitting. Hedley - Can I fly 'dual' in the U.S. as long as it's not 'instruction'? B/c for instruction, you need to go through the whole homeland security clearance thing. Also, will...

Re: Transport Canada Private Pilot Written Exam
Good luck to you tomorrow Joey. I wrote the exam just before Christmas and can second the remarks above ... - Remember it's multiple choice and use process of elimination - Read each question, to be sure you understand it. - Be prepared to move on if you don't know an answer - Time yourself. I knew ...

New Pilot - Question about frequency of flying ...
I just got my PPL - took me about 3 months. Now I'm itching to get out of winter. But seems that it will take a month to get my TC paperwork which I need to get my application started for a U.S. certificate. And then, that process will take 90 days. So I'm 120 days from being able to fly south of th...

Re: Upcoming Flight Test
Having just passed my flight test this week (yaaay me --- 3 months 2 days after my first lesson), I agree with the comments above. The examiner was awesome and put me at ease immediately. He asked me what was the worst outcome of the flight test. Was it to fail? No, it was to pass and then be in a s...

Re: Best school for PPL - With instructor shortage?
Well, if you do go in Courtenay and looking for low costs of living, there is the Comox campground. It is 15 minutes aways from the airpark and I know that instructors doing the cadet thing get a deal. You could probably get something like that if you tell them you are there to do your PPL. Extreme...

Re: Best school for PPL - With instructor shortage?
...<snip> ... I'd personally recommend Pacific Sky out of Victoria, Airtids was my old CFI, and could probably teach you to fly over the telephone. Kewl. My cell phone plan has free evenings and weekends --- maybe I should go this route! :smt040 Seriously --- thank you everyone for further comments...

Re: Why choose that school....
Of the schools listed for Calgary, no one has mentioned Calgary Flight Training Center in High River (used to be at the International).
Does anyone have experience or can provide information/feedback on them?
Thanks.

Re: Best school for PPL - With instructor shortage?
Thanks everyone for your comments. - Springbank Aero is not taking new students right now b/c of instructor shortages. They were almost too busy to talk to me on the phone and discouraged me from even coming in to the office. - CFC has 3-4 week wait b/c of instructor shortage, but expect that to cha...

Best school for PPL - With instructor shortage?
Hi all. This is my first post, so please cut me a little slack ;) I've read the archives and also the links in the sticky about flight training schools, but all the threads are a few years old and surely things change. For example, I was going to call Harv's Air today and voila ... there's a post sa...
