Re: 2026 PIT FLEET AC
I am speculating but I would estimate AC staffing at around 14 pilots per fully utilized NB and 22-24 per fully utilized WB. These may be conservative estimates considering the impact of the FTDT rules and the phasing in of deferred CBA changes that may impact pilot efficiency. I think you're SUPER...

Re: Porter slides off runway in YHZ
Halifax needs to get their sh*t together. I can’t speak to this incident, however, it is not a coincidence that they have issues every year. Probably about 4 or 5 years ago, I was getting ready to depart and they were advertising 23 the active with a 4-5 knot tailwind component, and 1/4 inch slush....

Re: Widebody fleet replacements?
I was under the impression that Airbus types have a simplified course if you are already typed on another Airbus as the systems are designed to be as similar as possible. I'm guessing the salary structure and collective agreements make this impossible at Air Canada. airbus has CCQ (Cross Crew Quali...

Re: Leave TS for AC?
I’ve flown with FOs that were captains at Transat that came over in their late 30s early 40s. And a lot of Transat FOs. Yes the lifestyle at Transat is better but some of the FOs mentioned they were more tired at Transat cause their departures for Europe were always late at night. I don’t know of ma...

Although it did happen in the past when AC was flying the CRJs. But if you failed your command course you were terminated.

Re: Strike outcome desires
Where LTD and pension upgrades changed in this TA? LTD will have different levels to choose from and there's a process in place to get into a pension plan. Similar to what WS did on their last deal. The executive summary is pretty good but once we have the whole agreement and attend road shows thin...

Re: Hiring demand vs supply?
Fair point. But equally they could waive that for flow positions if it suited their business. They require a ATPL and 2000 TT I don’t see AC waiving either of those to hire Jazz FOs (not to mention passing over higher seniority captains at Jazz which would contravene the PML). But they can and will...

Re: Hiring demand vs supply?
The way I had it explained to me was that Air Canada hires, future captains! If you’re a captain at jazz, you’ve worked in the hardest airports on the busiest routes, etc. They (AC) don’t want to have a glut of FOs who can never upgrade philaviate and lostav8r, I'm under the impression both of you ...

Sorry I hadn’t seen that you already posted about this. To be fair it was posted in general as opposed to the accident/incident sub forum.

Re: UPS MD-11 Crash in Louisville
Just watched a breakdown of the of the takeoff roll video. You can definitely see what looks to be multiple fireballs coming out of engine #2 as the plane rotates. Was this due to debris from when engine #1 self destructed or the flames and smoke being ingested by engine #2 I’m guessing we will find...

Looks like an MD-11 has crashed in Louisville on takeoff. Reports of fatalities. #1 engine found near the side of the runway.....reminiscent of the infamous AA DC-10 crash at O'Hare in 1979. https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/article/at-least-3-dead-11-injured-in-ups-plane-crash-in-kentucky-and-governor-...

So with Rouge that’s 247 fins so that gets you down to 162 employees per fin still a big difference with Delta’s ratio.

Nothing new about that, in Canada aviation is treated as a cash cow as opposed to vital infrastructure.CaptDukeNukem wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 8:10 pm Interesting that the government is putting the onus on operators to get expensive equipment rather than actually spend money on the airport.

Re: Air Canada summer/fall hiring
Just remember AC doesn’t have a set time line from interview to hiring. The candidates with more experience (705 jet PIC, jet time, total time etc) and other things that add to their resume get called much more quickly than candidates with bare minimums. If you haven’t gotten a PFO hang tight, no ne...
