Re: Sqwak Ident

Yup I noticed a lot of people call up atc with something like YYZ terminal this is CFHTD with you squawking ident at 2.5 vfr to CYHM. (fictional) I'm assuming you can't really do that either eh?

Re: Cleared the Approach?

So I got the logical answer to the question and it involves LOKTI. If you are DME equipped, LOKTI gives you a step down altitude for most likely an obstacle withing the FAF, after LOKTI which is DME established only, you can descend to the LOC DME minima. However, if you are not DME equipped you can...

Re: Cleared the Approach?

I never really noticed. I will ask a coworker who has more experience. He's pretty much an aviation encyclopedia, he'll have the answer i'll get back with it!

Re: Cleared the Approach?

Good question... It's got me wondering. I was going to say it is because LOKTI is a DME determined point but the LOC only minimum is even lower than the alt at which to cross it. Hmmm,

Re: Cleared the Approach?

Well that's his choice to choose which minimums to use. Let's take the ILS 07 into YOW. Now, if ATC clears me for a straight in ILS 07 and I am withing 7 nm of the ZOW(moody ndb) I can descend to the 1500ft which is the beacon crossing altitude for someone not using the glidepath. Now I am still est...

Re: Skies still unsafe 10 years after Swissair crash: Experts

Definately, I think a lot of companies are becoming more and more pro-active about accident/incident avoidance rather than learning from experience. But there is obviously a lot of work to be done. Everyone has to do their part in this and not point fingers. No matter what you fly or who you do it f...

Yeah i'm going to have to agree with you on that. The only thing that changes on the ILS app if the GP is u/s is the minimas you use. But it is still the ILS approach.

Well i'd expect to be cleared for the ILS app glidepath U/S and follow the lowest minimum altitude on my plates.

Re: Cleared the Approach?

Well you can't clear a LOC only approach if there isn't an approach named that way. If the pilot wants that just clear him for the ILS and he can use the altitude minimas on the plate like he wants. If the pilot wants to disregard the GP and go down to the BCA within the limits allowed I don' see wh...

Re: Cleared the Approach?

Exactly, you clear for what's on top of the approach plate. If the GP is U/S it's up to the pilot to determine his minimums.

Re: The Six Best Toronto Port Authority Noise Complaints

Curiosity made me check the CFS...does anyone know where the designated area is for engine runs? It's not in there. Also, the PRO section says all jets and ceratin types of propeller aircraft are prohibited from utilizing the airport. Does anyone know (and I don't mean opinions) what prop aircraft ...

Re: Cleared the Approach?

Wouldn`t that leave to a bit of confusion if let's say I am cleared for an approach and do the visual but end up entering a CYR. Would it be your sep loss or my infraction? I mean it is our responsibility to stay clear but if you don't comfirm the approach the onus stays on you no? I think it is bet...

Thanks NJ, I was just curious because in back of the medical it says 1 year for pilots, 24 months for ATC, flight engineers.
